Riders...
So there was a thread about truly great horses and I got to thinking HEY my horse is a great horse...I mean sure, he finished up the track in every race he ran...he's got crooked legs, a short fuse and a spook like you wouldn't believe...he cribs and lives on expensive joint supplements...he runs the fence line for hours when he doesn't want to be outside...he was kicked out of his barn in CT cause they thought he was dangerous...he wears expensive bar shoes and loses them regularly...
But I love him. He's an absolute goat...I ride him without a saddle...I ride him without a bridle...Today I rode him without either one...I can open the barn door and throw him out on the front lawn and he will just hang out until I ask him to come inside...he's completely safe to put my cousin's kids up on him...Hell he was even safe when Steve rode him! ghe's tall dark and handsome and most importantly he loves me back... so riders...tell me why you love your horse (or the horse that you ride).

You had me going! After all that talk about riding without a saddle, without a bridle...well, I thought there would be a Lady Godiva pic. Oh well... As far as riding mine, they're all crazy at times. I guess their mentality rubs off on me. Oh the bonding! Really, the one filly will be easy to break (Shot o' Boubon), and the other one, Darlin' by Day, has been named the "problem child" by the barn hands. Last week they finally got her to make a right hand turn on a lead. I don't ride the moms when they're in foal, and the weanlings aren't ready yet. They're just getting used to being away from their mom's. As for the best ride lately, one that was fresh from the track named Silver, was a lot of fun. He was still full of himself, and I got the task of starting him on the way to his new career. I'll just say, we came to an "understanding". I hope I made him half as tired as he made me. btw...he did find a new, good home. And no, I don't ride without. DTS |

My horse is a GREAT horse.
Power, Elegance, Kindness, Style, Cadence, Rhythm, Beauty, Conformation, Looks, Character, Charisma, Boldness, Movement...he has it all except for temperament. There are very few that are capable of riding a horse like this. I have owned him since he was a yearling, and he was the first horse that I ever trained from a yearling up. I’ve seen him grow and develop from an ugly ducking to a graceful swan in both his personality and conformation. That horse got me through some tough times, and we've had a lot of ups and downs together...from exhilarating triumphs to upset defeats and from hospital visits to being on top of the world. He is by far the best horse that I have ever ridden, and I've ridden hundreds of horses. I like the challenge of him, and his cadence, rhythm, and POWER. He is so awesome to feel underneath you. It feels as if you are holding "lightening in a jar" when you take the reins and put him on the bit. When you are riding him, you know that you are sitting atop one of the best. He even carries himself like he knows he is special, with an extra air...his head held high and beautiful neck arched. He is magnificent to watch when he is playing out in the pasture while engaging in passage and extended trots. I have cried in his neck, and I have laughed at his tricks. Just being around him is sheer joy and delight. I smile every time I see his magnificent face, when he pricks his ears with a bright expression as if to say “Hi”. I wouldn't trade him for any other that treads this earth. He has captured my entire heart and soul, and is priceless to me. There are some things that money can't buy, and he is one of them even though he may be lame for the rest of his life because he suffered a traumatic injury a few months ago that won’t heal. I’ve had him for seven wonderful years, and he will be with me until the day he dies. He is my best friend. To you, Chucker. Last edited by kentuckyrosesinmay : 11-17-2006 at 10:09 AM. |

Oh you all know why I love Mr. Buck Naked. He is my buddy. Wanna know my fave thing about him? THE HORSE LOVES LOVES LOVES treaties.
He knows my routine. No treaties before ride. After the ride, our dance begins. He gets unsaddled and put on crossties. Then he gets his "shower" to rinse off dirt and sweat. Back to the crossties for him. Next I put my tack away as he eyeballs me VERY CLOSELY! Once the saddle (always the last thing to be put away) goes into my car, the whinnies start. It begins as a low grunting, and works it way louder and louder as I get closer to him. When I get to him, he stands PERFECTLY STILL with little low nickers. I then thank him for being a good boy and then he gets his treaties. He gets so excited by the treaties. But he does know what "that is all. no more" means too. He calms right down and we go out to graze on some grass while he dries. They say a man's heart is through his stomach, WELL SINCE I CAN'T COOK A LICK, I think the saying was supposed to be "A horse's heart is through his stomach". It is how I won Buck over. I even threaten if he is a bad boy during our ride that he will get no treaties. I bribe him at horse shows with "every blue ribbon means an apple". My avatar is a pic of him and I in our jumping class where we won our first blue ribbon.

I share my diet pepsi too! His owner laughed at me for sharing my Gatorade with Buck after the show he was there to watch. He loves that his horse is babied so much.
