king's drama, though off longer than i would prefer, may have things his own way up front in this race. he's a very capable horse, and, of course, his trainer has had a little success in situations like this. i've been kind of muddling through santa anita this week. maybe this is the one to get me off the snide. i'll play him to my maximum. flores always gives his best on the frankel's also.

The time between the end of the 7th race tomorrow, and the start of the 9th race, is a waste of about 1 hour of your life. All so Frankel can have this mismatch take place.....2 to 5.....3 to 5.....4 to 5....pick one. Let me know when this guy announces his retirement,or passes.

when you're just trying to get one home, and it's the handicapping, and not the odds or hype or reputation that puts you on the horse, you play it. it's the best way to get your game straightened out when it's a little crooked. you'll get even money plus a little more. 7/5 maybe 8/5. hendrix will be a ridiculous 5/2.

No horse race is a walkover of course, but the King looks pretty tough in here, but maybe not as "formidable" as he was last year. Only two in here seem like they have run fast enough to compete with him and they are Hendrix and Rhythm Mad. One seems unlikely to get the pace that he needs and other seems like he needs to be kissed by a prince. Mandella is a crafty trainer, but who knows whether this reclamation project is for real or just another work by the brothers Grimm? Frankel's other runner seems interesting. 3 time Group one winner in Chile, but hasn't shown much in the U.S. Looks like he would be happier, if they were running this race in the Okefenokee. Some nice works though and interesting that he posted exactly the same time as his stablemate on 12/17. Also, kind of like the looks of the 2 horse Capitano. He seems likely to improve in this race. All that to say my picks are:

5. The King
2. Capitano
6. Porfido
4. Hendrix and for the very brave, my longshot pick: 3. Rhythm Mad

Kings Rat will not be 7/5 or 8/5. 3/5 is more like it, maybe if you are lucky 4/5. Jimmy Hendrix will be around 5/2 and thats really not ridiculous. He has a fighting chance. Kings Rat has always been overrated and his claim to fame is winning one of the worst renditions of the Sword Dancer ever in 2005. Who did he beat, Relaxed Gerbil? Please.

Kings Rat will not be on the lead either. Railroad will set the pace. Kings Rat may get a perfect trip in behind him but will have to hold of Jimmy Hendrix.

Terribly boring race. Pass.

Watch out for Southern Africa here. I think he is ready to fire a big one.

I think Southern Africa will be up against it for 2 reasons. One, he is a dirt horse running against turf specialists. Two, it doesnt appear to be a ton of pace in here to set up a late run like what happened in his last race where he closed very nicely to be 2nd on the polycrap. Not buying the theory that because he did well on the polycrap means he will like the turf.

Look, hes not even that good of a horse on the dirt. He is the proverbial wise guy play for anybody who thinks the 2 faves are vulnerable.

I think Jimmy Hendrix wins this heat.

Yeah, we're all thinking that the King and Hendrix tower over this bunch and that seems like the logical conclusion, but the two of them are only 2 for 15 in wins and only 4 for 15 WP at this distance. King's my pick, but would not be terribly surprised to see him upset and I am not sold at all on Hendrix though admittedly he seems to outclass all of these except King's Drama (if you throw out all those Group 1 races for the Chilean horse and the Argy). Have liked Southern Africa in some of his other races, but I have no feel for dirt (poly?) to turf horses. He looks like his running style would fit a lot of turf races.

I bet Southern Africa in his last 2 races. He ran very well last time but the pace collapsing greatly flattered his performance. I dont think he hits the board in here. To me, its Hendrix, but I am not jumping out of my shoes to bet this particular horse at 2/1 or 5/2.

Has nothing to do with the poly race. His last three on the sheets are 7-1-2 and his pedigree suggests that turf will be no problem. The only concern is that his trainer sucks at dirt to turf. At 8-1 I will happily take a shot on him.

Edit - Actually, if you go far enough back he's run on the turf four times with 2 wins and a second.

Good luck with him. Any opportunity to root against Frankel is good. I hope he wins for you.

Thanks. The two chalk just seem way too obvious and will be vastly overbet and the only way I see to beat them is with Southern Africa.
