Shows there is only so much you can with the surface. As long as trainers are running sore horses they are going to breakdown.

They had 5 total breakdowns from the days I sampled. Im not counting 1 which I dont know about. It was eased, but I dont know the final result. The others all broke down. Just not what I would expect from a superior surface.

The "new" variation of poly (with the Spandex and cable coverings) might not be as "safe" as the old variation. It's certainly faster.

The jury is still out on how "safe" poly actually is. People jumped to conclusions after last season.

who am I missing?

I record pulled up, broke down and similar.
I record eased only if notation is made of being vanned off. I check every chart, every day, but have been known to screw up.

Someone is very diligent in posting these on the pedigreequery site, and is usually way ahead of me.

race 4 Flipped in paddock, reserved early, advanced wide on the turn then broke down and fell when moving to the lead in deep stretch.

I dont think so hooves. 5 breakdowns in the afternoon in a 7 day sample, regardless of field size is substantial. There was also a horse who won and came back VERY bad. I dont know her status now. I do know she was xrayed out of the race, and showed multiple fractures. Doubt very seriously she will run again as she has residual as a broodmare. Im just giving you the obvious breakdowns, when they eased, get vanned, or fall. There are many more that arent posted in the daily charts. Horses coming out in bad shape.

Imagine what happens at some other tracks.

Turf Paradise appears to be the worst since I have been doing this.

but again, we don't know what happens to a horse who finished with no obvious injury that doesn't show up until after the chart is written or the next morning.

The only liscense I have is a drivers and a marriage{which has been canceled}. I am a fan and a better. Stats can prove what you want them to.How can you determine the fragility of these horses before exposing them to ther poly? How old were they? Were they cheep claimers just looking for a place to break down. If the truth were known how suprised were the conections when the event occured. As much as I dislike the stuff, the true barometer is the horsemens acceptance of it. Large fields arent the guage because some will think this stuff can work miricals and thus run suspect horses. These are just my opinion but I think they are valid.

from what I have noticed doing this now for 5˝ weeks, most appeared to be lower level horses, many who hadn't broken their maidens or only had a win or two.

Turfway is not happy about this at all. The downside to Poly is that minor injuries can go undetected. But to have this many horses vanned off in a 5 day span is not encouraging not matter what level the horses are racing.

Another breakdown last night at TWP, allowance race. Bomb Diggity, allowance race. I wonder when they are going to address the situation there

And I think you should be careful when using the term "breakdown." The term "breakdown" references a horse died while racing. Most of these horses were eased for various reasons. The are several reasons why a horse is vanned off.

Euro,

Bomb Diggity fractured in 4 different spots. They havent put her down yet, but Im still counting it as a breakdown. The horse last night broke down as well. When I say breakdown, they have broke down. I will let you know if they are bleeders or have a lung infection.

Oh I thought you meant that Bomb Diggity broke down last night. I understand your post now. You were mentioning two different breakdowns.

Yes different breakdowns.

This was a real bad 7 day run at TWP. Im just saying those are both allowance horses, not cheap horses. There have been some higher level horses coming back bad.

Only 3 breakdowns from the 10th through 14th. Also one on the 7th. So this week they have had 4 breakdowns in the racing week. I would say the average clip is about 3-4 a week.
