Bufffy I dont see how something factual like the number of times that a horse is whipped can be debatable. I furthermore dont see how anyone could watch the replay and not see the guy whipping away furiously all the way to the wire.
Not trying to get you angry but your mea cupla skills could use some sharpening.

NO NO NO NO NO!! My suggestion is just to go home, watch your tape again, unemotionally, and take a look at the jock. Just do it, and then lemme know tomorrow what you see. Like i said before, I wasnt even aware of it until this past hour when your posts caused me to go and watch the replay. I learned something I didnt know, was thinking you might as well. Peace.

You can watch it here for free.

I think he let up on him for a second in the stretch. Might have cost him the race.

He clearly went to a hand ride for a second there. It clearly wasn't chop chop riding him. I do agree though that the horse has a problem once he gets to the lead, but he isn't your classic hanger.

Curt,
Way, way different races. Jazil at AQ in the Wood was all slop.
Seek Gold was on a different track. Different ride.
The one thing I see in common is "heart".

btw, is it just me or does anyone really believe that hitting a tired horse twenty times is going to make him run any faster?
Tired horse=nothing more the jock can do="hanger".
Might be time to cut him back if they're going to keep running him (PD).

Perfect Drift was THE bet in the race. 10-1 was a major overlay. He's never liked grass but those 2 grass races were enough for the public to ignore him.

But he didnt win, so you still rip up the win ticket on Perfect Drift. Does it make you feel better if he was 100/1 or 1/1?

But I do agree, from a wagering perspective, I dont think it was a bad spot to step out and bet Perfect Hanger.

Buzzards Bay might have been one of the worst 4/5 shots I have ever seen at any track with Valdivia breaking from the 1 hole, knowing that he had no shot to make the lead and he would have to actually run down a horse with some ability. Horrible, horrible bet.

Just another opinion. PD ran a great race. It looked to me that he was in full drive from the 3/8ths pole and was 4 or 5 wide thru the turn. He passed the pack in the stretch and put them in his wake. Maybe it was just better timing on Borel's part.

that's just it, he wasn't tired. he quit running. one of the horses who doesn't run to the finish. no company to run with, so he quit. hanging horses aren't necessarily tired. they are necessarily not interested in winning, but in sticking with the pack.

I'm not saying PD isn't a hanger. But Saturday he ran big and I think he only eased when Guidry's body language told him the race was over. It looked like he tried to get him to rally again, but too late.

I guess some folks think if you tell it like it is you are insulting a horse. Thats just not so. I wish PD as many wins as he can get. Its rare to have a horse around this long in this day and age when they are whisked off to stud asap. Hes a gelding and hes been a really neat horse to watch and root for for so many years now. I like the story about the non big name trainer keeping him throughout and loving him, its all great. Its just that in recent years he has become a perpetual bridesmaid. Not the kind who find trouble, quite the opposite, he gets a clear run and looks homefree and finds ways to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.
Its not insulting him to say that he likes to wait on other horses. Its just a fact.

Buffy, you can't say you like PD and not get a chorus shouting you down. It's just how it is. It's clear to ME that PD tends to run to the level of horses around him. I think he is not alpha, as someone said. But, as horse of course pointed out, he will slug it out if the horse is with him. If he is such a mediocre horse, I'm sorry he wouldn't have gotten up for 3rd in last years Classic at 6. I'm sick of hearing words like "cheater" and "hanger" when that is not the case, but just as we won't back down that he is a nice horse and deserves what he earns, they will never admit the same. All they want is a Ghostzapper who runs 6 times in his life to cheer over for some odd reason. You and I, we like the campaigner who *always shows up*. If he doesn't win, so be it, but I see folks leaving him out of their tri's all the time, and if that isn't the *dumbest* handicapping move you can make, I don't know what is. It is awful fun, I guess, to come beat the crap out of him on boards. I wouldn't know. I love this horse, and always will.

Chup anyone who hasn't been keying this horse 2nd and 3rd in tris is an imbecile, first class. Its just so unusual to see a horse who loves to compete like he does constantly losing the close ones.

Son of a b1tch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oracle, did you see how bad Wiggins got pinched????? OH man, he would have had a shot right there at the turn. I can't beleive it. I did not see that. Please watch that race again, focus on the 5, and tell me he wasn't just as game as any of them!!!
