Default Beyer's for Sat's Stakes

Looking over the final times for the stakes run at GP and SA on Saturday, this looks like a pretty tricky day for figure making at both places, especially with the two 7.5 furlong sprints at Gulfstream Park....which I believe should be cut loose from the other two 7 furlong sprints.

At SA, the Robert Lewis Stakes came back alarmingly fast, while the day's first route race, which featured Rackateer beating Sinister Minister came back slower than expected. There's a chance that the main track possibly got a little bit faster as the card went on, but I really don't think the evidence is strong enough to suggest fooling around with anything.

The commerical numbers aren't posted on the website yet...but here's what I came up with after looking over the final times.

Corinthian- 105
Scat Daddy- 97
Chelokee- 91
Lava Man- 108
Great Hunter- 100
Albertus Maximus- 91

(Now the very tricky ones)

Deadly Dealer- 102
King of the Roxy- 100
Half Ours- 102

I haven't looked at the races at all, but I don't see any way Half Ours gets a 102. I'm not saying that isn't what he deserves, but I would think we'll see a lot higher than that.

I agree that Half Ours race will probably come back faster than I have it, perhaps even by as many as 8 points.

However, I simply could not justify giving him anything higher than a 102.

I thought it was on the speedy side, but I also thought Santa Anita
main track was a little on the dull side yesterday.

I think Gulfstream got harder later. It was hot. And again I ask, what was wrong with the 1 hole. I did not see a horse get a decent start out of that spot?

I was. Even though as a Derby horse its probably not gonna work. Stormello is a very game animal. He was pushed the 2nd half hard and still hung in there. I was sure he was cooked.

Default 1 post at Gulf

I was wondering about that myself... Rescue Party, For You Reppo, Forefathers and Slam Bammy all broke very poorly..needless to say, I also bet on all 4 of them, which is why it was so noticeable .

The ones on the DRF Leaderboard, besides DD's 104, are:

King of the Roxy 102
Bold Start 98

Corinthian 107
Hesanoldsalt 107
AP Arrow 106

The Santa Anita numbers may not be up yet at DRF.

Boboman might have a bit of a future on dirt. Loved him underneath Lava Man but run came too late.

Agree with above poster that Stormello while not running that fast is dead game, regardless of track condition. He is tough and look forward to seeing him run in the future

I pretty much knew the figuremaker for the Beyers would cut the two 7.5 furlong races loose from the two 7 furlong races...and have a seperate variant for each, I was a little surprised to see that we both had the same difference between the two distances. The only difference was that the Beyer figuremaker had the track 2 points faster than I did in the sprint races.

They had Deadly Dealer and Half Ours both getting a 104. I had them both getting a 102.

The Santa Anita figures were much less tricky. I had the track 1 point slower than they did.

Nice job.

I do pace and speed numbers as you know but many here might not, and Deadly Dealer, King of the Roxy, and Great Hunter's races all came back as normal for the final time. The Fountain of Youth was about 6 lengths quick, and the Half Ours race was quick early as well. Corinthian's race was pretty slow early on, and Lava Man's race came back about 2.5 lengths slow early.

Nice calls, what would have been the effect of not splitting the variant between the 7 and 7.5 furlong races? Would KOTR and DD have higher or lower figures?
