Deep Impact
Scores again. Arc is next up. This horse is going to be ready. The Japanese are ready to invade France this time.

He could hardly have looked any stronger this morning. This will be the first time that I can actually say that I'm excited about and looking forward to the Arc.

This horse takes my breath away. Tears actually came to my eyes when I saw this race. I think this is the best horse in the world right now, and possibly one of the best ever.

Holy shiat...I've been watching some of Deep Impact's races on YouTube. I'd heard about him but had never seen him run before -- I don't think I've ever in my life seen a horse obliterate the competition like that. Is this what we mean by a deep closer, or is he something else?
Seriously, to this amateur, this horse looks like the best runner I've ever seen. Where does he rank in comparison to other all-time greats with whom we're more familiar? Wow, I wish I could see him run in person! |

I don't think he's run outside of Japan, so it's hard to compare him to non-japanese runners. His status will move up greatly though if he can ship in and win the Arc.

The horse has lost 1 race in 11 (he came in 2nd). I think he has run in five G1's. If he wins the ARc and continues on...

Is the Arc really his NEXT race? Will DI run in a prep race or are they training him up to the race?

He looked good on Sunday morning but that was against Japanese bred horses. I think he will have a very hard time in the Arc. I think he will have a harder time in the US.

I haven't really followed Deep Impact that much, so I don't know if that's not unusual for this horse... but the Arc isn't run until early October, right?? That's a LONG layoff!

You are correct Zippy. Early Oct. That is only a 3 month layoff. I would be interested in seeing when they ship Deep Impact to France.

I was just thinking about it... with the BC being run on November 4 this year, maybe we'll see more Arc runners this year because of the extra week between the Arc and BC? That would be nice.

The racingpost says that he might take in a prep like the G1 Irish Champion Stakes in September at my home track or the G2 Prix Foy in Longchamp. Deep Impact is amazing and the only horse that has beaten him is Hearts Cry who beat a nice field in Dubai and is oncourse to run in the King George and also possible in the Arc.
With Hurricane Run surprisingly losing at the weekend, one must say that Deep Impact is the best horse on the planet at this moment..

Now that Sunday is gone, there won't be many of his progeny left on the track, so while they are around I'll root for horses like Deep Impact, even if his every victory angers me just a little bit more. |

I was laughing at the Japaneese race call. I had no idea what was going on or where he was, then I heard "DEEEPUHHHAHHH EIIEMMPACTO" I was like oh, there he is. It looked like somebody driving a corvette on the freeway passing a bunch of minivans.

Great description, whorst! I didn't understand a word of it but his name, and even that took a time or two to catch. Like I said, whatever you think of him, that's one hell of a move to pull time after time! I really liked his race in the last part of the Japanese Triple Crown: skittish from the start because of crowd noise, raced to near the front, burned up a ton of energy on the bit, then the jockey finally hauled him back and settled him in mid-pack...and he *still* came flying in the last 100 yards or so to beat the others.
