Default Rick Dutrow Jr.

Although it was solely to my benefit, as the decision to run Kazoo made Silver Wagon a mortal lock in the Carter---however, running a horse like Kazoo back on one day rest to do the dirty work for Silver Wagon.....that's not exactly a great showing of class by this trainer in my opinion.

I know few horseplayers here really think he's clean, and Dutrow has had his suspensions and all---but, what he did in the Carter is yet another example of the extremes this guy will go to in order to take an edge.

It's not that I have a problem with running a rabbit in a Grade 1 race to ensure the right kind of pace for your horse---or even to take away the tactical advantage from your main rival---however, I'm not sure what is more shady, running a 9-year-old like Kazoo, who's made over $600K, on one days rest, to go out and take Latent Heat and Keyed Entry apart---or to run TWO rabbits at a horse, and have them do a little more than just inject pace into the race, which is what happened in the 2005 Woodward....when two Dutrow rabbits assassinated Commentator....setting up the Dutrow trained Saint Liam to win stylishly, while restrained throughout by Jerry Bailey.

The man surely does have an amazing and crazy life story---and could very well be as good a horseman as anyone---but.....from a fans standpoint, how can you possibly not despise this man?

He's had some real nice horses to race over the last five years---Saint Liam his best male and Carson Hollow his best female....and may they both rest in peace.

To make it even worse, he can try to justify running Kazoo out there because he picked up a $6,000 check for doing the dirty work. A larger field? No check.

Surely that was the reasoning he threw at the owners when he said he was going to run him. "It'll be like a 3f work and you get a guaranteed 6k on the back end."

Are Four Roses connected to IEAH at all?

Yes, the "women of the night" I saw him with in Saratoga respected his money.

He doesn't have a view.

He's Charley's brother Al and he enjoys being a big fish in a little sea.

well......

it worked.

of course use of rabbits will never get you anything but a hard time. but many times you can dry your tears with the check you win!

Dutrow seems to be the only one to run uncoupled rabbits.

The good news for him is that he does not have a reputation to soil.

He has done it before on two or three days rest so it doesn't surprise me one bit, and he has won with those horses.....

all that being said, the use of said rabbit, and subsequent outrage, certainly didn't compel ID to withold his betting money!!

what i mean is as much as all the rabbit use, dutrows rep, etc, indomitable didn't skip the race, he bet and won. i just think it's kind of ironic on his part to complain, when he used all that info to hit the race.

I disagree. The "win at all costs attitude" can be questioned even if you made money on the race...We aren't betting on saints.

Still though, anyone that knows Dutrow's habits recognizes that Indom. observations are dead-on.

It was the " ID " I didn't understand....I can never figure out these abbreviations. Hell, I just figured out what AGS was last night.

DrugS isn't complaining.....he's just pointing something out. He's pointing out, basically, that Dutrow has proven that there is NOTHING he won't do to win a race. I guess that can be considered good and bad.

well, that's true!! which proves my point. ID was offended enough to skip the race, recognizing what was going on helped him make money. dutrow makes no apologies, i'm certainly not trying to do it for him!

sorry, laziness on my part with the abbreviating...

and yeah, it can be good or bad...no doubt silver wagons people are thrilled. but then again, kazoo may not have been. i don't know what he ran the day before--evidently he was able to do the job yesterday. but of course we've seen rabbits pay the ultimate price-bosque redondo for one--so it is good, or bad, or both!
but like i said, it worked-yesterday and with st liam. i'd assume dutrow doesn't really care if anyone else has a problem with using a rabbit--he only answers to his owners. speaking of which, who owns kazoo, and i wonder what they thought about it all....
