If the threat of fines isn't enough to make anti-seatbelt advocates follow the law, I invite you to read over the following links.

Gov. Corzine and his injuries. His hospital bill, by the way, will run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Fortunately, he's a multi-millionaire and can afford to pay for it himself:

And debunking the myth of the "thrown clear" excuse:

Buckle up, people! I want all of you around for a long time!

A bit off topic, but I worked for a short time with the orthopedic surgeon that fixed the Governor's broken leg. Good guy, and one of the best to fix an open femur fracture...

altho i don't think there should be a law, or that it should be a primary offense (secondary here in arkansas), i do wear a seatbelt.

but i do think it should be enforced for children and safety seats!

we had two fatalities in less than 24 hours on the same stretch of road, both drivers were ejected-the one guy would have lived had he had his seatbelt on, the other i don't think it would have mattered.
he drove under a log truck, and was partially decapitated. i came up on the wreck right after it happened, no emergency vehicles yet or anything. i don't think i'll ever forget seeing him laying there.

but had he been wearing a seatbelt, he may not have gotten tossed partially out of the open window, and the head injury may not have occurred....it was pretty gruesome.

Almost every morning underneath the underpass of Little Neck Parkway and the Long Island expressway there is a cop set up looking for people on cell phones and not wearing a belt. Not wearing a seat belt does not produce any points on your license. They've also tripled the amount of corners that now have cameras and catch you if you run a red light.
