![]() Seeing now that Hard Spun has been competitive against the best 3-year olds, but has shown not to be as good as SS, Curlin, and Rags, where do you point Hard Spun now?
Do you keep him on the dirt for the summer? The horses above have beaten him, but at a mile and a quarter he's held his own, including that "moster" 2nd he ran in the Derby (being close to that fast pace, he ran huge). Or do you move him to the Turf? His sire is Danzig, so he should be just as formidable on the turf. For both Danzig and Hard Spun's future stud fee's, showing that he can be competitive in the TC races and being a Turf winner would play a huge factor. Also, could he maybe be even better at this surface, kinda like when Showing Up moved to the Turf after the Derby last year?

![]() I was thinking about that angle as well...
But do you think he'd come from off the pace as a sprinter or do you think he'd stay on the pace and try and outlast his competition? I know of his ability to put up sizzling works which would make us believe he can sprint, but...

![]() I said sprint, but actually I think he'd be great at a mile, 7F or 6F...and also, I'm not the biggest Pino fan, but after the Belmont, I think if I were Jones, I'd apologize & put him back aboard.

I don't think it was Jones who wanted him off. Listening to Jones on ATRAB, He didn't seem to think Pino's ride was the reason for losing the Preakness. The pri.ck of an owner was clearly the one who wanted the change. What a loser he is. Last edited by herkhorse : 06-10-2007 at 07:06 AM. |

![]() They should aim him for the Kings Bishop, maybe he can take down a Grade 1 before he enters his well deserved retirement at the end of the year.

![]() they are aiming to Darley Jonabell.....I'd be surprised if he ever runs again....
Oh and Jones is being very critical of the ride Gomez gave him...said the instructions were clear and Hard Spun was to be on the lead and try to steal it off at the quarter pole because they knew the fractions were going to be slow....not 3 back eyeball to eyeball with Curlin in a stranglehold....not sure how much credit that derserves...but that camp everyone included got exactly what they deserve...but unfortunately HS is the one who suffers... |

![]() I see him falling off the map like so many of the good 3 year olds from last year. The triple crown just takes a toll on them.

i don't see hard spun falling off the map. he almost won the derby, so i don't think the distance is an issue for him. maybe he's the congaree of his time, right set up, right race, he can win it--altho it may be just a bit too long for him.

![]() i'd imagine tho if street sense goes to the haskell, hard spun will go to the jim dandy. those two will avoid each other, unless of course they both go in the bcc--which i doubt, look at the avoidance between bernardini and discreet cat last year.

![]() Jones might not to want to move him down since he saw that Teuflesberg race on the undercard
![]() Must say tho Stormello ran a nice race and I do think he could be something by the end of the year |

I said it before, you take him back to a mile, and every horse that races him will know what his farts smell like...That is, until he starts to draw away...

![]() The horse is only a G2 winner on polytrack and a G3 winner on dirt. Do people really think they'd rush him off to the breeding shed with that resume when he's a horse that would have a great shot at HOY next year if he returned?

darley intends to ship him to australia, as a son of danzig, he'll be very popular down there (as well as here) as a replacement for danehill.
