On The Gallops in Newmarket

NANNINA washed awaysome of the cobwebs on her reappearance at Epsom recently and, with the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot only a week away, continued her preparation on the Limekilns trial ground on Tuesday morning. Cheveley Park Stud supremo Chris Richardson wasin attendance with trainer John Gosden on a warm summer morning and last year's Coronation Stakes winner looked sharp under Jimmy Fortune when skipping clear of her companion over about seven and half furlongs. Costume has a choice of either the Coronation Stakes or Sandringham Stakes and she looked in good fettle when working on her own before Royal Oath showed up in a good light in company with the York-bound Broghill. Lucarno appears to have taken his race in the Derbyreally well and he looked in great form when bounding clear of Racer Forever before Imperial Star loomed in another solo spin. The progressive stayer Right To Play had his exercise on the long gallop and showed up in an encouraging manner with his two companions, and the Queen Mary Stakes contender Bastikiya gave the impression she is going the right way when easing ahead of her companion on the trial ground. Fortune's busy morning on the gallops continued when he partnered the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained Dutch Art in his work and the 2,000 Guineas third looked in good order when pulling clear of his companion. After a changeover, there was more pre-Ascot work for him when he had the leg up on Norfolk Stakes contender Winker Watson, who looked classy when pulling four lengths clear of his companion with his head bowed in determined style. Tariq was another to show up well in his work and Al Qasi (Adrian McCarthy) and Hamoody showed that the St Gatien handler has his team in just the shape he would want ahead of the biggest meeting of the year. Saeed Bin Suroor had been out earlier with his workers and Echo Of Light  commenced the action when striding out purposefully in a solo spin before Laverock took the points in his spin with The Geezer. Cherry Mix (Kerrin McEvoy) and Tam Lin (bad boy!) were other two noteworthies to go through their paces on their own. One To Note Lucarno (John Gosden) Derby fourth looks to have thrived since his fine run at Epsom

TARIQ showed he was back with a vengeance when slamming US Ranger in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and further evidence of his wellbeing was on display on the Limekilns short gallop on Saturday morning. The Kyllachy colt had previously returned to winning form at Newmarket but he gave the impression that he has a lot more to offer in the coming months as he deftly pulled clear of his companion. He next lines up against the starter in the Group 2 Betfair Cup Lennox Stakes at Goodwood on July 31 and that engagement will be eagerly awaited by connections. Derby winner Authorized was back on parade after his Eclipse Stakes effort and was only asked to join up with old sparring partner River Alhaarth as his connections ponder over the decision of whether to run in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Al Qasi and Striving Storm both went through their paces alone and the promising Amaakin was partnered by Roy Carter in a decent spin with a once-raced colt. Saeed Bin Suroor had been in action on the trial ground earlier where Purple Emperor limbered up quite nicely in company with Midsummer Fun. Seabow (Ted Durcan) is shaping quite nicely as he readies for action and moved well with Moon Quest. Durcan was in action for Henry Cecil later in the morning where he took the leg up on the likeable Kandahar Run and the grey son of Rock of Gibraltar showed he is coming along with each gallop as he picked up from the rear to take command in his trio. Rattan, a chestnut colt by Royal Anthem, looks another that will be making the right noises in due course and he moved readily clear of his workmate. After a change over Crystany (Durcan) moved well in her spin with Unnefer and Burn The Breeze, a daughter of Beat Hollow, gave positive indicators in her work with . Jack Dawkins could attempt to build on a promising effort at Newmarket at the end of last month at Yarmouth on Tuesday night and moved well in his work with Timetable. Sir Michael Stoute was another on the Limekilns where Jeremy (Maxine Cowdrey) looked in good shape after his fine effort when short headed by Ramonti in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot when striding out strongly on his own. Majestic Marauder looks a decent sort and he moved well in his spin with an older companion. One To Note Tariq (Peter Chapple-Hyam). Going well in his work as he starts the countdown to the Lennox Stakes.

MARAAHEL displayed his mettle when wining the Hardwicke Stakes for a second year running at Royal Ascot and the gallant six-year-old will once again try and grab that elusive Group 1 victory in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday week. With that engagement in mind, Sir Michael Stoute exercised the Freemason Lodge favourite on the round gallop on Wednesday morning and the Alzao horse looked in grand order under Richard Hills when bounding clear of his lead. He looks better than ever and if guts count for anything will be right in the firing line at his favourite venue. Richard Hills had taken the leg up on Wasseema earlier on the trial ground and the Danzig filly moved ahead of Kaseema in the closing stages of her work before Lang Shining (Maxine Cowdrey) blew out nicely ahead of his reappearance at Newmarket on Friday night. Majestic Marauder steps onto the racecourse for the first time at Newbury on Friday afternoon and he looked in good shape for that engagement when moving nicely under Ryan Moore in preparatory spin. Winter Sunrise and Jamboretta were another likely pairing to go through their paces together on the trial ground. Henry Cecil was on the long gallop with Pillar Of Hercules (Ted Durcan) who travelled smoothly in unison with Timber Treasure and the white-faced Rattan once again showed plenty to enthuse about in his spin with his workmate. Walking Talking moved nicely in his exercise and after the changeover, the grey head of Templestern could be monitored travelled strongly with his companion. The James Fanshawe-trained Sir Gerry heads to Newbury for the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes on Saturday and he travelled well in his work under Mark Denaro with his companion. The Limekilns had been the venue for Saeed Bin Suroor to exercise Formal Decree (Kerrin McEvoy) the previous day and the Group 3 winner at the Dubai International Carnival looked in great shape when moving smoothly clear of his lead. Stage Gift was another to show he will soon be making waves for the Godolphin team when moving well in his work with Familiar Territory. Geoff Wragg was on the Summer gallop with his Royal Ascot winner Heron Bay (Steve Drowne) who showed plenty of response to his riders urgings when coming to join up with Jack of Trumps. Dragon Dancer is on the way back and had a steady workout withhis companion. Peter Chapple-Hyam had Tariq on the Al Bahathri polytrack for his latest spin and he moved well with Al Qasi whilst Striving Storm looked in good order with his workmate. Western Art (Nick Perry) strode out nicely alongside Polar Circle (Adrian McCarthy) with both getting the ticks in the right places. One To Note Maraahel (Sir Michael Stoute) Moving in stylish fashion ahead of his big test in the King George.

LIGHT SHIFT is being prepared for another possible clash with Peeping Fawn in the Blue Square Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday week and it was time for some graft on the Limekilns short gallop for the Henry Cecil-trained filly. The daughter of Kingmambo just needs to be kept ticking over after her latest outing in the Irish Oaks and she did all that was required under Ted Durcan as she travelled smoothly in company with Brisk Breeze. Passage of Time hasn't been over exerted since her unplaced effort in the Vodafone Oaks but she was back in the gallops beat and looked in good order when enjoying a nice relaxed piece of work with Many Volumes (Tom Queally). Jack Dawkins continues impress in his work and stuck on well for Victor Deering as he joined up with Unnefer (Durcan) and the likeable Kandahar Run (Queally) who could be the pick of the trio in time. Crystany (Jimmy Quinn) looked in great order in her workout with two other fillies as she went about six lengths clear and fasterground for the daughter of Green Desert can spell out victory. John Gosden had been an earlier visitor to the Limekilns where Stronghold continued his work towards a reappearance when staying on strongly to force his head in front of Guiseppe Verdi. Raincoat is being prepared for the Gordon Stakes and he gave the Clarehaven plenty of encouragement ahead of that entry when following up soon after. Sir Michael Stoute was soon in evidence and the white-faced Jeremy (Ryan Moore) looked in good trim ahead of the BGC Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday when stretching out nicely in a solo spin. Galactic Star (Gary Forster) took the plaudits in his spin with Tawaassol and Ogee and Gold Hush looked like a filly going places when moving well in her work with Hi Calypso and one other. After a changover, Ladies Best looked in good form in company with Regal Flush and Gulf Express. Ed Dunlop was on the Summer gallop with his team and Ektimaal, who will be ridden by Nina Carberry in the ladies' race at Ascot on Saturday, shared company with King Of Argos who head for the totesport.com International Handicap on the same card. Dalvina had her first gallop back since finishing third to Silkwood in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot when sharing company with Tabadul. King Charles (Patrick Hills) was another to show a likeable attitude in his workwith Axiom. Bentley's Biscuit heads for the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on August 5 and Gai Waterhouse's sprinter looked a lot sharper than he has done in some of his work since coming to Newmarket when always holding tabs on acompanion from James Fanshawe's team. Sir Gerry (Mark Denaro) has an engagement in a six furlong conditions event at Newmarket on Friday and he made looked in good order ahead of that race when striding out nicely in his exercise. One to note Gold Hush (Sir Michael Stoute). An improving filly who looked just that in her workout.

Evie warms up for Newbury
by Tony Elves RED EVIE will be looking to Newbury to provide her with a fill up to her already illustrious career when she takes her chance in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes on August 18 and the Michael Bell-trained filly continued her preparation on the watered gallop on Racecourse Side on Wednesday morning. Her head defeat of Ramonti in the Lockinge Stakes is looking good now and, although she displayed her familiar workmanlike tendencies under Georgina Bell, connections will be hoping she can attain that level of form once more. Northumberland Plate winner Juniper Girl was given a solo spin up the same stretch as the Fitzroy House handler contemplates either the Prix Kergorlay at Deauville on August 19 or the Group 2 Lonsdale Stakes at York two later. Regime was shaded on his recent visit to France but the Group 2 PrixGuillame d'Ornano could well be his next appointment after a promising performance in company with Metaphoric. Dave Simcock has his team in good shape and Hazard County looked in good shaped ahead of a 7f handicap at Sandown when moving well in company with Postage Stamp. Henry Cecil was on Al Bahathri Polytrack with his workers where Passage Of Time (Ted Durcan) posted her intentions with a solid piece of work in company with Totesport Ebor entries Tranquil Tiger and Templestern. She has the option of the Juddmonte International or Yorkshire Oaks with the first-named preferred at present. Rattan (Jimmy Quinn) is coming along nicely and showed plenty of encouragement for the future in company with Kandahar Run and Tomintoul Flyer but there was precious little between a likeable trio. Multidimensional looks to be on target for his return next month and stretched out well in a solo spin and, after a changeover, both Unnefer and Timetable, and Winter Bloom and Burn The Breeze worked well within themselves. John Gosden has plenty of options in mind for Lucarno who worked to the trainer's satisfaction on the Al Bahathri Polytrack. One to note Passage Of Time (H Cecil) - Coming along nicely as York approaches.

LUCARNO, who heads to York for the Great Voltigeur Stakes on Tuesday, looked in great nick under Jimmy Fortune as he did some preparatory work on the Limekilns round gallop on Wednesday morning. The overnight and early morning rain helped produce near perfect ground and the Dynaformer colt came through nicely from off the pace to join up with his two companions. Pipedreamer had shown he was back to his best when winning at Goodwood and he looked in good order on the trial ground in company with Transcend. Stronghold gets better with every gallop and he looked the part under Rab Havlin when working well with Imperial Star. Costume heads off to America next month but she looked in great shape in company with Asperity. Legislation could be in action in the Acomb Stakes next week and he looked in good form in his spin when working alongside the likeable Legal Eagle (David Kinsella). Sir Michael Stoute was another with some of his York possibles on the round gallop and Distinction (Maxine Cowdrey) caught the eye when moving strongly at the finish of his gallop with Arabian Gulf and Great Hawk. Winter Sunshine continues to thrive and she moved well in her spin with Dance Of Light. Gold Hush didn't quite come up to expectations at Goodwood last time but there will be other days for her and she sparkled in her spin with Allegretto. On the trial ground, Cabinet gave the impression he is another going the right way when leading up from Sugar Ray and Lang Shining. Luca Cumani was in action on the watered gallop on Racecourse Side where Speed Gifted (Jamie Spencer) caught the eye in his group and Ebor favourite Purple Moon was another to show his wellbeing in his workout. Michael Bell is looking to Red Evie to get her season back on track in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday and she prepared for that Group 2 contest, in which she carries a 4lb penalty, in company with Eddie Jock. Regime was another from Fitzroy House to show up well with Metaphoric in his gallop. Henry Cecil was on the peat moss with Passage Of Time (Ted Durcan) and, although York comes too soon, she showed that she is heading in the right direction when going clear of her companion. What do you think about Lucarno?
I'm convinced he will be much better over ten furlongs but they still decide to run him over a trip, which has looked too far for him. I know you rate the horse a lot (like me), i'm starting to get really annoyed with them still campaigning him over twelve furlongs.
