I had a feeling once he blemished his "undefeated" record they'd whisk him off before he was too, too exposed... |

Obviously paying $6 million plus (yes, 50 cents on the dollar), this probably wasn't part of the plan. They had the inside track and they knew what they were getting. Could any race have been his last? I doubt it, or else . . . then again, $6m plus is a big #.

The only thing they didnt do to keep Half Ours sound was suspend him from the Ceiling of the barn in the evening.
Unbridleds Song's can break a leg taking a leak, its amazing how prone to injury they are.

Half Ours' second dam was the lightly-raced Cal-bred, Key Phrase, a grade 1 winner that made just 6 career starts (including 5 wins). She has passed on both her talent and unsoundness in several foals including highly-touted, yet unaccomplished Yankee Gentleman (a favorite in the BC Sprint a few years back), Key Deputy (a stakes calibur, but sparingly raced Live Oak Plantation runner for Bill Mott), and Key Maker (a Wygod throwaway given to Clifford Sise, who got him to break his maiden with a triple digit Beyer, only to see him to fall into the 10-16K claiming ranks in SoCal). In addition, Key Phrase herself is a half-sister to the very fragile, overhyped Tribal Rule, who made just 4 starts for Julio Canani and the Wygods (earning huge speed figures) before becoming, unfortunately, a rather popular new sire in California. |
