Default What is this SCAM ?

For the last two days I have been getting notifications to update my account information from various banks. When it was just the one I wondered if it was legit. Now I have received anohter notice from another bank.

it look authentic but when you click on the link it doesn't go to a website

I know it is a scam but it isn't working
what are they trying to do
have me enter my info on a phoney website?

with all the identity theft I wondered if someone pretending to be me ran up a huge bill somewhere but I don't see my "real" name mentioned in the e-mail

Yeah, sounds to me like they were trying to get all your bank account details, because they obviously informed you of an "important change" or something to that effect.

If it had worked, they would have got all your details and cloned a bank card for their use.

My card was cloned earlier on in the year from a device put inside an ATM machine. Luckily enough the Police raided the preoperty of the person(s) who did it before they managed to use it. Very scary though.

I now only get cash out during the day from ATM machines situated inside the bank itself.

Be wary though, people are now starting to get jobs in gas/petrol filling stations where they can clone people's cards from the comfort of their own job. It happened close to wear i live. This guy had been cloning thousands of cards over a three week period before he was found out.

Are you sure it didn't do anything else?

This sort of scam (phishing, I believe) is all the rage right now. People are setting up alternate websites for places like Paypal and Ebay which look exactly like the real site.

Two things:

1.) No business, Ebay, Paypal, Bank, etc, will EVER ask you to enter that type of personal information on the net. Or at least they shouldn't.

2.) Always make sure that any site is secure when you're using a real site anyway. Https:// should be how it starts instead of http://
