JCS... you gotta start your own blog, it would be highly entertaining.

Its not like Adriano is sired by Danehill or Nureyev. He is by AP Indy. His FOY was a flop, yes, but does that mean he does not like dirt?? If his connections felt that way then whats the point even attempting the derby?
I am taking a longshot here and putting him on top of my list to win it.

It's called derby fever. . . Why do you think they kept him on the turf for so long?

I dont care what his breeding says. He has one dirt race and it was dismal. What you are asking for is the horse to run the best race of his life in the biggest race of his life on a surface that he has shown no affinity for. Regardless of the confusion over the different surfaces this is still a real longshot. Not to mention his nervous nature that surely wont be eased by 140000 screaming fans. His connections have Derby fever so nothing they do or say should effect your perception of the horses chances in a positive way. Or maybe you buy into that half mile in 50 was so outstanding that he just has to love the dirt?

I see him as a grass horse who's owners see a chaotic Derby scene and figure "What the hell?" From my vantage it is crazy but I have never been close to having a colt with nice breeding for 10f who is eligible for the Derby...
If this was a more "normal" year with a couple of very clear leaders, they might pass. In a year like this when so many wildcards keep turning, I guess they seem to figure that they must take a shot.

even with very clear leaders, you'd still have a 20 horse field. when's the last time we didn't have one?

When was the last time you saw Motion with a really good dirt horse? Just wondering.

The horse can turf and he can poly. He's not top tier but he can certainly win some races and make quite a bit of money IF spotted correctly.

What he really doesn't need, however, is 12F of abuse at CD the 1st Saturday in May.

Why not just secure him and have the owner and Motion take turns kicking him in the nuts for a half hour instead?

Really disappointing on Motion's part.

He broke from the 12 post at Gulfstream in that one dirt race so there could be a reasonable excuse for the poor performance. Worth noting that Prado is picking this one over the winners of the Blue Grass and the Wood Memorial. That has to say that Prado thinks the horse will be alright at Churchill. He wouldn't be among my top choices but considering the odds he'll go off at on Derby Day he may offer some value.

The horse can run a bit, but Motion has basically admitted that Adriano is a psycho and that is part of the reason for the dismal FOY. How do you think he's going to handle Derby day? This horse is a toss, regardless of talent.

I keep coming back to the point if Motion thought he was a dirt horse, why did he start this horse off on turf? It seems what we have now is a Trainer who is adhering to his owners wishes to run in the derby by forcing a square peg into a round hole.
