Default HRTV

Have you ever noticed that HRTV commentators always find a way to mention the Kentucky Derby. I was watching earlier today, and one guy said "...and his sire is Crypto Star, who of course ran 5th in the Kentucky Derby." Seemed like an odd "stat" to bring up. And they do this year round, too.

Do these commentators have a frame of reference limited only to the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup?

...and can someone tell John Dooley (who I'm sure is a very nice guy) that we live in America and we don't refer to races by their post time?

Sorry. I'm in a bad mood today.

and since TVG lost the rights to take wagers on Churchill Downs they only mention the Kentucky Derby when necessary. The guys at TVG go to all lengths to never utter the words Churchill Downs.

Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

....I met him briefly at Fair Grounds. Seemed like a cool guy. Everyone liked him. But I think he tries to get too creative with his calls.

No!!!

I think he gets too creative with his calls sometimes. He didn't used to do that. He just called the races. Now he adds a bunch a stuff into his calls, like the post time of the race. I don't know. Seems unnecessary.

He's probably one of the top three announcers. Just wish he went back to his old style. That's all.

being creative is what makes him great. aside from a good voice and being accurate, he works daily to make his calls unique and different and not fall into a rut. Thats why i like him and Wrona, they are always keeping it fresh and changing it up.

I agree 100%. He (Dooley) is one of my favorite callers....maybe even THE favorite. He also has a way of building the excitement - even on the most mundane of races.

I like my beer cold, my cheeseburgers plain, and my race callers boring.

I must have weird hearing (well, I know I do - my left typanograph was double-peaked) but I find the nasal tone that creeps into Mr. Dooley's calls like fingernails on the blackboard. FG is my favorite track and the one I 'cap best, but it is hard for me to listen to the calls all day long. Nothing to do with his competency, of course.
