If this book didnt help you, stick to mythical WPS bets. Whatever you do decide to do, no more $250 straight p3 bets, please.

Barry Meadow's book is excellent for constructing and looking for value in exotics.

There's no way you read that book and it's not helping.

Everyone says it's a classic but I found it boring and outdated. . . I understand the math behind it - it makes sense - but all the strategies were just too rigid for me.

That's probably a result of bad or unlucky handicapping. Books like 'Exotic Betting' will give you the strategy, but they're not going to pick the horses for you.

It might help if you actually told us what you wanted to learn.

There is no book about betting strategy that, at this time, is going to help you at all. As you are currently, you can't be helped by anyone other than yourself. Once the entries for a race are even mentioned you have narrowed the race down to one or two horses. You are so phucked up with preconceptions that even if you are a capable handicapper you won't be able to see through the murk to make rational decisions.

You actually seem like a well meaning person, and I'm honestly being nice here, but until you even give yourself a chance to win you will continue to lose day after day. This is not to say that you will ever be able to win, but that's OK because you love the game and will get great enjoyment from playing, but you will learn to love playing even more when you clear your head and look at all the horses racing.

Then you likely are having a problem identifying your "A"s from your "B"s and "X"s otherwise your tickets are too narrow in cost, number of selections per race, no other reasons not to cash I am afraid....

oops a little late on this one he's the knowledgable one on this subject here. Sorry Andy.

Did you hear about the guy that always lost at the track? Week after week, year after year he would never win. He was broke, but decided to go the track and make his bets in his mind.

He lost that too.

i dont really even know. i mainly play pick 3 and 4... once in a while i will throw in a exacta or win/place bet... but when i got to otb, or the track the gameplan is pick 3 and 4...
i dont know what i want to learn to be honest, i find my tickets normally looking like this....4-3-2
or 3-3-3-1, i always seem to catch early, be live to a nice payout and i can never close, cause im never deep in the back end ?
