You were the first person I thought of when I heard the news. I knew you two were good friends.... my condolences for your loss, bud.

I think we should name a 2009 2YO after his legacy.

Sounds like a great guy, too bad more people didn't know him on this level...such a sad story, feel so bad for all Luke's friends, loved ones and fans. I was just thinking earlier this week when I thought about playing EP this coming weekend...about how great it would be to hear Luke again. Hadn't heard him during CD because the ADW crap.

Heaven just picked up a great race caller.

Ellis should run their next race without an announcer as a tribute to him.

Sad news indeed.

Hell of a good suggestion, a "moment of silence" in his honor. You should suggest it to management there...

I never had the opportunity to meet Luke. However, he seemed like a great human being. We need more people like him in our society.

The idea that Ellis should run the next race day without a caller was emailed to TVG this afternoon. I believe that Geary will do just that.

On a side note....if this is coronary related, I hope that people will realize the importance of good heart health and all around physical health. We have lost two people in the past month that were icons in their profession. Russert and Luke had similar life styles and build. Men, more so than women, have got to watch their health around age 35. Please, please do not take your heart for granted.

Beautiful idea! It is one of those classic moments only horse racing can pull off.....but, will likely get missed.

The thing is, it's impossible to replace a guy like that. I would hope that Churchill would do at least one silent race in Oct. too.
I feel so bad for those that knew him personally, such a shock.

He was a real pro and kind of caller everyone respected. Another tough loss for the sport. RIP

Default Kruytbosch memorial service planned at Ellis

Luke Kruytbosch, the announcer at Churchill Downs, Turf Paradise, and Ellis Park who was found dead Monday morning in his Evansville, Ind., apartment, will be memorialized in a service at Ellis Park when racing resumes there Wednesday.

Ellis Park’s director of operations, Bob Jackson, said the track is still working out the details of the service, but tentative plans call for it to begin before the first race, “maybe five minutes to 12 (central) and last for about 10 or 15 minutes,” said Jackson.

More details on the service Saturday and a tribute was paid today as the first race was run in silence.

I'm going to try to make it to Ellis for the tribute on Saturday, if anyone will be there.

I will be there also. It's a sad way to meet, but maybe a few DTers can get together to toast the big guy.
