![]() One of my all time favorite movie lines.....
Kirk, my old friend; do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in space!

![]() Steve once again you've beat me to it. These guys were both great actors.
Patrick McGoohan was on several Columbo episodes and had a role in either directing or producing it -- I forget which. He was King Edward the Longshanks in Braveheart, and was the warden in "Escape from Alcatraz" with Clint Eastwood. And Ricardo Montalban was great. We all know him as Khan Noonian Singh and Mr. Roarke. In all of his roles he brought a level of sophistication and class but was never a wimp like some of our actors tend to appear these days. And being a huge Star Trek fan, I noted that he gave all kinds of interviews relating to his contributions to the series and Star Trek II, and was always appreciative of his fans. I also have a Columbo episode with him as a bullfighter who is a murder suspect. May they both rest in peace. We are not gaining actors of this caliber at the rate we are losing them, and that is truly sad. |

![]() One role that of McGoohan's that seems to be escaping mention is that of the villain in Arthur Hiller's very under-rated Gene Wilder-Richard Pryor romantic comedy thriller "Silver Streak".
![]() If you've never seen it, mild-mannered author Wilder is basically caught up in the classic Hitchcockian "Richard Thornhill" mistaken identity role, and steps up to save the fetching 'Hilly' (Jill Clayburgh). McGoohan is truly menacing in the James Mason-style role as scheming art dealer Roger Devereau. The supporting cast was extremely notable with Ray Walston (!) as a McGoohan henchman; Scatman Crothers as a porter on the Silver Streak ("Goodbye Los Angeles"... "Hello Chicago"); and Ned Beatty as an undercover FBI agent. Clifton James and Fred Willard too.. Pryor as Grover is along for comic relief of course. This scene where he blackfaces Wilder with shoe polish and teaches him to jive walk to escape police monitoring the train station is a classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu1TZVX72Aw ![]()

'welcome to fantasy island'. that and his 'rich, corinthian leather' are the two things that immediately came to mind. had forgotten he was khan... and the other guy played a marvelous edward the first, altho the movie itself was awful imo-and certainly played fast and loose with history. |
