Timm, would you please just create one, "I Hate Obama, Everything He Does Sucks!" thread, and you can just post on it endlessly?

While timm can occasionally be a little radical he happens to have a very good point here. This is a disgraceful piece of pork if we were rolling in money. As a economic stimulus it is close to criminal.

no telling how many pork projects get tacked onto bills-by both sides of the aisle. it adds up to hundred of millions or so every year.
next time one of your pols comes back, gives a speech extolling some money he's brought home-will you applaud or question? it's a lot easier to spend someone else's money-but we're ALWAYS the someone else. that money isn't free, we gave it all to the govt, and they choose how to spend it.

There are a number of mistakes in that article...
or maybe an attempt to deceive.

All in all though jobs do need to be created.
But the jobs created must provide some useful
service or produce something useful. We dont want
to pay people for just piling up rocks. And we need to
take a real hard look at how many of these jobs created
are short term.

There.
AHH feel better.

Fixing roads and bridges is something that might might help if it was poured in fast. Everything else smells like pork.

I will start with the most obvious one...

"No recipient . . . shall use such funds to provide financial assistance to students to attend private elementary or secondary schools." Horrors: Some money might go to nonunion teachers.

Like this is a bad thing???
Private schools dont have to play by federal rules, why give them federal money? Private schools pick and choose what students that take, public schools take on all comers. And the 2nd largest educator statewise, is Texas. There are NO unions in Texas... There is no such thing as a Texas teacher striking (which imo is absurd anyway...) California, the largest education state, does not have many very extensive strikes that I have seen.

I got more...

If ya want.

Basketball calls...off to the gym.

Totally agree. Printing $/borrowing to spend in this fashion succeeds in doing two things for sure: creates more government AND sinks us deeper in debt.

You are confusing your opinion with facts. The fact is that this was a total union concession. Why shouldn't all schools and its students and teachers get to feed at the federal trough? Shouldn't all schools that are part of the American education system get to try to improve?

It is a joke of a package that will do nothing but eventually cause the inflation that is sure to come to be worse. The govt is very poor at creating anything but more govt.
The biggest problem I have always had with Bush is that he sabotaged his own tax cuts with excessive govt spending. Now we get the real misery of much more govt spending and phony tax cuts which are actually tax rebates. The only stimulation here is the fuc king the Americans who have jobs and businesses are going to get.

I called my congressman. I don't think he really cares that most Americans, let alone his constituents, are against it. They're not being honest about what is in it or if they have even read it.

From what I've heard, building a new infrastructure wouldn't hit the economy for 2yrs......not exactly what we need or what we're looking for here.

Because all schools and teachers dont play by federal rules.
Private schools are called private because... guess what... They dont
follow fed. rules.
If all schools were allowed to hand select their students, you
would have kids roaming the streets and getting in your barn
and your house. You cannot tell me I can start my own school, decide to only take National Merit Finalists, and expect the Federal government to give
my private school public money... I dont think thats hard to understand in the least.
This is not an opinion. It is a fact. I am restricting kids from coming to my school. Therefore I dont get federal money.

WE as a country are attempting to educate the masses, not just the
chosen. I dont think this is a difficult concept. Democracy works best
when a majority of the public is educated. High School, for whatever reason,
is deemed the cut-off point. After that, Public Universities are allowed much
more latitude in selecting students.

This has nothing to do with schools trying to improve. That is a completely diff. topic. Is it suprising to you that the best public schools come from areas that are made up of parents and students of high socio-economic status? That public schools mirror society? Now if you want to allow kids to be able to attend ANY PUBLIC school they want, including the most successful, I have no problem with this. I would just like to know how you will accomplish this.

The rest of your arguement... I dont have much of a problem with.
Seems fairly sound.
