Default obama snubs medal of honor winners

Obama Snubs Nation's Heroes, Becomes the First President
to Skip Ball Honoring Medal of Honor Recipients in Over 50 Years

Submitted by Julie on January 21, 2009 - 10:13pm.
2008 News Politics U.S. Government U.S. Politics World Politics

Barack Obama may have stumbled over his words briefly during his
inauguration, but he made an even bigger blunder later Tuesday evening.
The newly sworn-in President opted not to appear at what should have
been one of the most important Balls on his agenda that evening -
"The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball."

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball was begun in 1953 for President Dwight
Eisenhower's inauguration. The event recognized recipients of the Medal of
Honor, the nation's highest military award. There were 48 Medal of Honor
recipients in attendance, who were undoubtedly disappointed by the new
Commander-in-Chief's failure to show. Over the past 56 years and 14
inaugurations, no President has skipped this event - until now.

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball is sponsored by the American Legion,
and co-sponsored by 13 other veteran's service organizations, including
those such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Military Order of
the Purple Heart.

Instead of attending this ball honoring our nation's heroes, Obama was busy
making stops at 10 other official balls. Obama and his wife's first stop was at
the Neighborhood Ball. From there they went to the Home State Ball for Illinois
and Hawaii , the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Youth Inaugural Ball, and the
Home State Ball for Delaware and Pennsylvania . They finished off the night
with brief appearances at the Mid-Atlantic, Western, Midwest , Eastern, and
Southern regional Balls.

Celebrities were a plenty at the balls, with Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Mary. J. Blige,
Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, will.i.am, Sting, Mariah Carey, and
Leo nardo DiCaprio in attendance at the Neighborhood Ball. In addition, the other
nine balls also featured a star-studded lineup including Kanye West and Kid Rock
at the Youth Ball, Marc Anthony at the Western Ball, and Cheryl Crow at the Western
Ball.

It was the party without all of the celebrities that Obama

skipped. The very people who he sought to have support

him during his candidacy and campaign, who have fought

to protect this country, were snubbed in favor of publicity

and the opportunity to rub shoulders - yet again - with the

out-of-touch Hollywood elite!

SHAME ON YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA. THESE BRAVE MEN CAME TO RESPECT YOU, YET

YOUR BLATANT FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THEM SENDS THEM AND ALL WHO HAVE FOUGHT TO DEFEND THIS NATION, THE WRONG MESSAGE. MAKE NO EXCUSES MR. PRESIDENT - WE NOW KNOW WHERE VETERANS STAND UNDER YOUR WATCH!

there isn't anything more to the story. past presidents who no doubt also had busy schedules somehow found the time to go to this ball. for Obama it was a lower priority. end of story.

I'm just so thrilled and proud that he did find the time to honor al arabiya with his first media interview.

Obama was the one that missed out. 2 years ago Arlington Park held a special day for the Medal of Honor winners. Probably 30-40 were there including many who have had books and movies written about them. They were introduced individually and while they limped and wheeled by the crowd stood and clapped for each like it was the first one. They seemed more appreciative of us than we did of them. Very few dry eyes in the park. One of the coolest days I've had at the track for sure.

What's the big deal? Try your hardest to answer without anything racist or condescending.

to be fair to Obama he went on the O'Riely factor on fox during the primaries and went toe to toe with o'rielly

what i dont understand is why is he elvating Rush Limbaugh by saying "don't listen to what Rush says"

now Limbaugh is garnering more media attention now because of this

as for the 'snubbing' by obama....

the way it's been put by both obama and biden is that they are a team. i can see why going to the medal of honor ball would appeal more to biden; perhaps he requested it be one of his stops for the evening?
now, i know those who have a bias will automatically put a negative spin on things, but perhaps it wasn't intended as a snub. of course, i generally try to give people benefit of the doubt, and at times i am wrong-i don't make the same mistake twice. but maybe some who are seeing this in a negative light need to take a second look.

just curious, you have a son in the military. ask him who he'd rather have seen in person. the commander-in-cheif who ORDERS them to battle or the second stringer.

well I was absent a lot as you know. Still was awesome to see and be with those guys. Made the winner of the next race less important for sure. And I was wrong saying the Medal of Honor recipients were winners although they definately are!! Guess the Col. is good for Arlington despite all the Levy nazi's who seemed to arrive with him.

i'll ask him in march, he's out at sea right now and unreachable. but i think he'd be more concerned about where obama would send him, rather than where obama would show up.

btw, seems the dems have always been accused of being less than affectionate towards our military-this won't necessarily endear obama to his armed services. but i think it may have been a miscalculation, not just an outright attempt on his part to slight anyone. i can see where going to that ball would appeal to biden, rather than obama.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Arabiya

from above:

Content and Al Jazeera rivalry

Al Arabiya was created to be a direct competitor of Qatar-based Al Jazeera.[5] According to a 2008 New York Times profile of Al Arabiya director Abdul Rahman al-Rashed, the station was founded "to cure Arab television of its penchant for radical politics and violence," with Al Jazeera as its main target. Mr. Rashed alleged that Arab television's coverage of militant groups was overly friendly. "You have to remember, it was television that made bin Laden into a celebrity," Rashed said. "That made Al Qaeda, and its recruiting, and this is how violence spread throughout the region." Mr. Rashed said Al Arabiya works to describe incidents of Islamist violence with neutral, non-supportive language. He also said the station had pushed Al Jazeera to be more critical of the insurgency in Iraq. "Now Al Jazeera is a very soft, reasonable station when it comes to the Iraqis," he said. Al Arabiya has, in turn, drawn accusations of pro-American or pro-Saudi bias, in part due to MBC's Saudi ownership.[6]

i think the days of trying to resolve issues by sitting alone in a corner not talking to people ended jan 20. i know it seems odd after 8 years of passive aggressive dysfunction in foreign policy but making the point of talking to a moderate arab outlet was probably a good idea. just my take.

You can quote as many articles as you want, anybody who speaks Arabic is still a terrorist or at least a terrorist sympathizer until proven otherwise to people like Jim.
