![]() * Trainer Gary Sciacca broke an 0-for-86 skid in New York dating back to last Dec. 5 when Wise Pitch ($8.90) won Thursday's nightcap. Sciacca, who won Belmont training titles in 1993 and 1997, did win a race at Philadelphia Park on Dec. 28. He was winless with his first 70 starts of 2009.
We all know Gary is a an awesome late closer |

He's like the James Buster Douglas of horse trainers. His legendary 21-for-59 mark with a $5.93 ROI - in all turf races at Belmont during the '93 Spring/Summer meet is the equivlent of KO'ing Tyson in his prime. He probably had Dutrow as his asst. McLaughlin as his foreman. Mullins, Jones, and Catalano as his grooms, and Steph Beattie, Mike Maker, and Jamie Ness as his hotwalkers. |

![]() Looking at the '93 Belmont Spring/Summer trainer standings from the back of Davidowitz's book...
Sciacca took the title by a win over Gasper Moschera. The leading trainer by win % among the top 10 was Bill Badgett. It's like the Giacomo over Closing Arguement Derby exacta. |

![]() Just off the phone with the Great One himself as I drove back to Boynton from the studio. While he admits being laid low by the rough winter patch, he's counting the days till the turf course opens and will be breathing fire shortly.. A few claims are ready to pounce, plus some 2yo's in the pipeline...
And G/L tomorrow to Super G and PGiaco with Marina Market in the 3rd! (And freddy... Don't try to get in to Il Mulino, Cafe Marturano or King Umberto's again...)

It was ultimately pretty disappointing. Gary is going to be breathing fire when turf racing starts? In the last 12 months he is 9 for 113 for a $1.09 ROI in turf races. He's 8 for 146 on the dirt....with an equivalent ROI on the dirt in the same period. Now, being that those numbers include his recent ( now ) 2 for 90ish......I'm a little confused as to how his PR Man thinks turf is going to turn things around. Having said that, I like Gary, and hope whatever surface he is racing on he does well. It's more about making fun of Steve's inane spin.
