Anyone know the plans for Silver City?
He posted a workout at Keeneland over the weekend, any chance he ships to CD? Hopefully he'll be back at 6F where he can dominate.

from drf:
Silver City heads Derby Trial probables Silver City looks like the biggest name for the $100,000 Derby Trial, the Grade 3 race that opens the Churchill meet Saturday. Trained by Bret Calhoun, Silver City was under consideration for the Derby until he faded badly in the March 14 Rebel Stakes. Besides Silver City, at least five other 3-year-olds are likely for the 7 1/2-furlong Derby Trial: Checklist, Hamazing Destiny, Hull, Rendezvous, and Santana Six.

Running second to Hull?
Other than that, not sure what they're planning with him |

He's going to see early speed like he never has before and I think he's a good bet against at anything short. |

And I wasn't actually that impressed with the Turfway race on paper, but he's bred to be a better horse on conventional dirt anyway. On the other hand, I couldn't have been any more impressed with his debut and the way he did it. He stopped the clock in a wicked time that day. Down the Road won a maiden race earlier that day in 1:12 and came right back to win. Cush won a high-end statebred allowance race in 1:10.3, and he rattled off three huge, very fast races all meet. The Pan Zareta stakes for older fillies and mares went in 1:11. All of which didn't touch Hull's 1:10.2. I know raw times are subject to analysis, but it's not like he just scored an impressive running line because he beat a bunch of nobodies....he ran like hell, putting away horses he was supposed to put away if he was any good, killed the clock, and then took a bit of a step back on a surface he arguably will like less in his second start. He hasn't done anything wrong yet, and he's undoubtedly still got room to improve and we're not sure where his ceiling is yet. I freely admit in my analysis of this race that's out there right now that he's taking a huge step up here...but he's exciting, and there's no way at all of knowing what he's capable of. So until I find out that he's capable of losing, I'll stick with him. |

I like the 2. This race is pretty open. Silver should win but I don't think so. Hull looks tough for sure. Checklist will be tough.

Came home slowly, but saw a wicked pace, sat just up on it and did exactly what he was supposed to do. Couldn't love this guy much more. |

When you see a horse like Silver City go faster than is possible to finish, twice in a row in stakes route races, either the horse can't rate or the trainer/jockey is mishandling them. Same goes for Old Fashioned (even though he did it 3 times in a row and won one of them).
Hard to win a 7.5furlong race without rating(or with stupid handling) unless you really tower over the field. Especially off two quitting efforts. |
