If you take a look at internal fractions for the 3rd Race, a Maiden Special Weight, look at the internal fractions of the winner, Luv Gov and third place finisher Big Flirt. At the half mile pole, Luv Gov was approximately 5 3/4 lengths in front of Big Flirt, while having a nice rail run under Miguel Mena. At the three quarter split mark, Luv Gov is only 4 1/2 lengths in front of Big Flirt, and ends up by the time he hits the mile split, he's 5 3/4 lengths in front of Big Flirt. So Big Flirt gains 1 1/4 lengths on him from the half mile marker to the three quarter mile marker, until Luv Gov makes a giant run up the rail to regain those 1 1/4 lengths back as both horses run that split in exactly the same 48.4. so because of that rail run Luv Gov is able to get the distance and time that he needs to in order to angle out and explode past a tired Gold Brew. Just an example for you of how even being down on the rail for a short period of time can help, as Luv Gov's rail position enabled him to save ground and be on the better part of the track when Big Flirt tried to make a move if you watch the replay.
With all due respect, I don't think a Traveling Wilbury could explain what gales is trying to say.

I ran my fastest marathon ever after receiving a massage the week before. It must work!

Does anyone else think Morty killed Gales, took his identity, and is now posting under his name just to screw with us?

Why did any of the Horses have to handle the mud in the first place. Why didn't the track super open the track up and at least try and dry it out. It didn't rain Sat. anytime after dawn.

I didn't see a whole lot of difference in the weather here from Friday to Saturday. They worked the track for the whole card friday, and it was fine by Oaks time. Why not at least try to dry it up for the first half of the card...and if it ain't happenin'...reseal it.

They did harrow the track repeatedly Saturday. I know they floated it (not sealed it) for the Derby.

I can just see that becoming the new craze. But nothing, for sheer idiocy, can top D. Wayne Lukas putting 3 inch nasal strips on top of a horse's nose. Like those little strips would've made any difference.

After the number of races they had by the time the
derby went off, I think it is safe to say there were
many inconsistencies in the surface.

So if people want to use the race as reliable
information for horses at the Preakness, more
power to them. People freak out enough about
the inconsistent nature of judging horses going
from syn. to dirt, and then make
sweeping proclaimations about that track and race...

Inconsistent in itself.
