Yeah. Where did he stand, do you know? Only a few years ago he was running against the likes of George Washington. Hard to think he'll be anywhere near ready for this though.

Godolphin ruined Macartney....... what a surprise.

At Haydock tomorrow, Tariq is back over seven furlongs on goos ground after a promising run in the Lockinge a couple of weeks ago. He is a seven furlong specialist with his conditions and a drop in grade. I think he'll take all the beating tomorrow. Main Aim will be the short priced fav, but he's a sprinter for me and he's up against a true seven furlong specialist who has already proved himself at this grade and higher.

I saw McCartney win the big 2yo race at Doncaster on Leger day. Expected him to show more as he matured, since his pedigree (In the Wings over Dashing Blade) indicated classic distance talent at 3 and up, but it didn't pan out.

How many promising horses have had their careers trashed by Godolphin buying them up and then mismanaging them? You can start with every one they bought in the US to train for the Kentucky Derby. Yes, Street Cry came back to run well at 4, but he could have done much more than that, had he been left in the states to train.

The list is endless I'm afraid.

Layman is one I always remember. He finished a close second to Divine Proportions when trained in France by Fabre, and (correct me if I'm wrong) then went to run a brilliant race against top class Oratorio. He was then snapped up by Godolphin and did very little at all.

Songlark was another promising horse in France before they got their dirty little hands on it.

Sabre D'argent was one of the best 2yo's David Loder trained. It went to Godolphin and wasn't seen for a year. He won a bad race, went to America and wasn't sighted in any of his starts.

Caradak was another one.

Probably the biggest mess of all was Shawanda. A very very talented filly, sold to Godolphin and never saw the racetrack again.

Imperial Stride had won five in a row for Sir Michael Stoute, he was then sent to Godolphin, and surprise surprise he was injured within a couple of weeks. He didn't see the track until over a year later and was ruined.

This isn't a horse they purchased in training, but Desert Authority was the real deal. A good friend of mine rode him every day and to this day he still says he was a Gr1 horse with so much ability. He only made two racecourse appearances, winning both of them. Never to be seen again, probably dead

Kilworth is another I could mention, who they ruined.

Stage Gift, they injured him, too.

Short Skirt, another horse who was with Sir Michael Stoute. She was bought by the big blue bin........... she ran twice before being injured and retired.

Dijeer
Hala Bek!!!!!!
Razkalla
Carry On Katie
Vista Bella

I could sit here and write a list for hours and hours, but there is no point. And that is without the hundreds we have (and never will see) The horses that are broken down during training and destroyed. The wastage at Godolphin is huge. Hence the well known term "the big blue bin".

Another thing, I will always laugh at is Bayeux. Godolphin could manage very little with him, so they sold him. None other than Michael Tabor (coolmore) purchased him later in his career and has gone on to be a stakes winner in America and a great second finish behind Kip Deville.

The only horse that Godolphin have improved in many years has been Ramonti. They tried their hardest to ruin him, but injury after injury he kept coming back. That horse was as tough as nails.

It surprises me (still) that Godolphin are still respected in the industry. They have ruined so many nice horses, many horses have paid with their life just by being trained by these muppets and still they get represented as being the good guys and horseracings saving grace.

It's got to the stage where trainers such as Mark Johnston and Michael Jarvis are becoming scared of having really nice horses, as they know they will taken away and slowly run into the ground by Godolphin. They have to be very quiet about the good horses they have, try and disguise them for as long as possible. Neither of them can win. If they disguise them, they are losing out themselves, but if they have a very good one that wins a race impressively, it'll be at Godolphin by the end of the same day.

Godolphin thwarted by Quijano in Milan Group 1
By Robert Carter1.15PM 15 JUN 2009
Report: Italy, Sunday

San Siro: Gran Premio di Milano (Group 1) 1m4f, 3yo+

GODOLPHIN'S search for a top-level winner this year came up short once more in Italy on Sunday, although Age Of Reason ran a brave race to finish second to Germany's Quijano in the Gran Premio di Milano.

Quijano, sent off 7-4 second favourite behind Voila Ici, was completing back-to-back successes at San Siro on Sunday, had to be driven out to beat Age of Reason by onelength.

The Godolphin colt, who was running for the first time since winning the Qatar International Cup in February, had put his nose in front two furlongs from home.

Vol De Nuit had set only a steady pace and wasfar from done with, and Martin Dwyer was never able to establish a clear advantage on Age Of Reason.

Quijano, who had raced in third most of the way, gradually wore him down.

Andrasch Starke drove out the German seven-year-old to inch clear while Age Of Reason saved second by a head from Voila Ici, who rallied strongly after being outpaced more than two furlongs from home.

Starke said: "Quijano was always going well. He can be lazy in frontbut he kept on strongly, I think he's as good as ever."

Diana Cooper, representing Godolphin, was delighted with the effort of the second. "He seems to run best when fresh," she said. "Martin Dwyer gave him a lovely ride and we were beaten by a better horse on the day - a genuine Group 1 horse.

"But Age Of Reason appreciated the fast ground, will hopefully be able to win a Group 1 this summer."

Vittorio Caruso and Mirco Demuro, trainer and rider of Voila Ici who was narrowly favoured over the winner, both blamed the slow pace. Caruso added: "He could have been second if he'd got going earlier."

Everything seems to have gone far too smoothly for the big guns so far this year, looks like the anti racing gods are making up for it now. Not managed to catch any racing news for the last couple of days. Perticularly disappointed about Paco Boy not running in the July Cup, I was really looking forward to seeing how he got on over six furlongs.

Jockeys Banned After Flight Incidents

Three South Australian jockeys have been fined and suspended for one month after misbehaving on a commercial flight from Adelaide to Mount Gambier.
Jockeys Garry Hoobin, Paul Marks and Sean Harrison fronted TRSA stewards yesterday, after an incident on June 23.

Stewards deemed their actions on the flight were "prejudical to the image of racing" and subsequently charged them under the rule of AAR.175A.

Hoobin and Marks pleaded guilty while Harrison offered no plea.

After deliberating, stewards suspended all riders for one month commencing at midnight on Sunday, 19 July 2009 and in addition, each rider was fined $500 and received a year ban from all Regional Express flights.

It is understood the riders brought twelve beers on the Regional Express flight and despite the pleadings of airline staff not to open them, proceeded to consume the alcohol.

Ironically, the trio were returning from an industry-funded tutorial about responsible consumption of alcohol.

It is also believed Paul Marks is under investigation from the Civil Aviation Authority for allegedly failing to wear a seatbelt during the flight.

All riders have been informed of their right to lodge an appeal.

Awww, disappointing.

Feel better, Youmzain!

From Channon's site...
(no author listed)

YOUMZAIN RULED OUT OF KING GEORGE

YOUMZAIN will be an absentee from the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday week after sustaining a minor setback.

The six-year-old was this morning found to have a swollen near-fore joint that although superficial is enough to scupper his chance of lining-up for Ascot's mid-summer feature.

Mick said: "The horse isn't lame but there's swelling round the joint and we can't take any chances. X-rays taken on the leg showed nothing for us to get worried about, and he'll hopefully be back later in the year."

Youmzain finished third in last year's King George and most recently occupied the same placing in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Ironically he had worked encouragingly in a visor as recently as Tuesday.
