"If you are a family making less than $250,000, my plan will not raise your taxes - not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

trust me chuck i'm one of the 98% of people in this country who earn less than that figure a year

what i want someone to explain to me is how 98% of the country will not get any tax increase. do people here believe that the top 2% of wage earners can be taxed at a rate to cover all of the new president's spending programs?

Gales - Please get with the program:

"Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential."

Those 2% of wage earners earn 24.1% of all income and pay 43.6% of income taxes. So yes, upping the taxes on that group does make a huge difference.

Personally I feel it is about time they add another tax bracket. $250,000 just isn't that much money these days, especially if you are living somewhere like NYC. Add a tax bracket for $1 million and up instead of increasing the taxes on the people between $250,000 and $1 million.

Should never have given out the tax cuts in 2000 etc. That trickle down bullshit is about as useful as that race car driver Dick Trickle was. We could of been getting half that 10 billion a quarter in profits that the oil companies were raping the average American to get. No, we don't want to do that. We want to give oil execs. 400 million a piece etc. Well, fine. Don't btch now.

tell me why oil prices are going up now that bush is out of office , why can't obama get OPEC to cut the prices and save us all money ....surely if bush can control the price of oil and what opec charges for a barrell, obama can as well , why isn't he getting them to lower the px to help us all i thought he was going to be the messiah.

for the last 8 years all i heard was oil is high because bush is in office and he is linnig his friends pockets ...well why is it high now

Dude, Conservatives always do this(want the 250k-1 mil/YR. to be hurt as much as the OPRAHS.) They need to have these people (this "doing good, but not rich") getting taxed as hard as the billionaires.

Not talking 'bout the price. I am talking about the profit made when the price goes up. This is a quasi monopoly. If they charge 10% profit on a gallon of gas, then think how much more they make at $4 a gallon. Should give them an incentive to keep the price a certain level. After $3 a gallon, they get 5% profit on gallon, and the gov't gets 5% profit. We could start eating away at that deficit. They could easily get by on 5 billion profit a quarter per oil company. You want ham? Go to the pig. SCUD'S PIG PAC(T)

I think the highest tax bracket is like 375K and up.. something like that.... was looking at it today, there isnt even a 250K and up tax bracket.

http://taxes.about.com/b/2008/10/21/...-announced.htm

some people also think once you are in a higher tax bracket your whole income gets taxed at 33% or whatev.. which is funny. I've heard people say they dont want a raise because they will actually get less money because they will be in a higher tax bracket. That makes absolutely no sense and they dont understand that the first 7500 or whatev is taxed at 10%.. then next 15k you make is taxed at 15%, etc, etc..

But you are right.. instead of hiking the taxes for people making 150k, or 300k... they should just create a new tax bracket for 1,000,000 & up and another one at like 20,000,000 and up.. get the guys who can really afford it.

exactly... I wanted to punch people in the face every time I heard that somehow Bush controlled oil prices. The average American is very dumb.

Yeah, you are right, I think they adjust each year for inflation so it is up to $370,000+. And it is amazing how clueless people are on tax brackets.
