Default Summer Bird

Looks like if turf doesn't work out for him he will be another to miss out on the Breeder's Cup as they are expressing concerns over the Classic on a synthetic surface.

Are we seeing a trend here? I think I read Fabulous Strike wouldn't go too and others have voiced that they were in "no hurry" to bring back their horses and will wait for next year (Musket Man, Seattle Smooth)

i think more and more people are realizing that main tracks are not created equal-synthetics are a third surface, and it's being treated as such. recent statements out of cali make me think that many regret making the move to syns more quickly then they should have, without doing the proper studies.

i doubt it'll have a negative effect on the races this year, some top horses will still be there and the handle will as well. but as for calling it the 'world t'bred championship'-i think that's a reach-i always have.

I agree that it's problematic having the Breeders' Cup on synthetic surfaces, but in the pre-synthetic days, it's not like Eastern horsemen were beating down a path to compete in the BC at SoCal venues like Santa Anita. There are actually more Eastern horses shipping West to run now than there ever were in the pre-synthetic days.

it is a THIRD surface, and its more like a TURF surface. why should horses like fabulous strike show up? so he can lose to fatal bullet, a horse that has not beaten horse on a dirt track? he sucked here the other day and burned alot of money(not mine). this happens all the time! these horses win the bluegrass get in the derby and can't beat a horse! its a third surface and has nothing to do with DIRT racing. the future of it will be training only, i hope. as for the handle, i disagree, it will be down and not just because of the economy. i bet less last year and will probably even be less intrested this year. how can you say "no negative effect on the races" when some of the horses people KNOW are the best(on dirt) won't even show up?

Glad I waited on that one.

I'll have to check the pyramid and see if he's right.

I'm concentrating on the Turf Races this year. Will suck trying to play the PK3,4, and 6's though unless they have them lined up. Means I'll bet less too.

i agree-it's not dirt and has nothing to do with dirt horses.

the races will still occur, there will still be good ones in there. yeah, it sucks that some good ones won't be there, but the show will go on. and i'd imagine we'll still see some good racing.
don't get me wrong, i wish it was on dirt. i'm a dirter.

and handle is best at churchill, far and away the best, for the bc-they should have it there every year.

euros in cali look twice the horse since most are turfers.

as for summer bird, that statement is as ludicrous as the one from a poster saying zenyatta's streak is comparable to pepper's pride.

He didn't handle the dirt very well today and went "subpar".

obviously this definitively rules out pointing to any major DIRT races for later in the year.

Maybe he can be a field goal kicker or something?

"His first work at each track has always been subpar," Ice said. "The second work is usually much better than the first."

"Those who have observed Summer Bird training here in the morning have noted that he doesn't move with flawless fluidity, especially in behind.
"That's the way he goes. I've watched him since January - he's not going to impress everybody by how he moves," Ice said. "If they were watching him since January they may have a whole different view. He shows up in the afternoon.""
