I'd be saddened if Zenyatta won HOTY. In the future, if there is another super filly or mare, they will look at Zenyatta's campaigns and think they could get HOTY by hiding 90% of the year and then showing up for one big race. Or maybe that is just the Mosses.

However light Quality Road's campaign may look, his races are open to any horse good enough, and that should be worth more than a race like the Vanity any day.

I'm trying to figure out what's gonna go down with Older Female. Even if RA or Zenyatta both miss out on HOY, it's gonna potentially hit the fan in their own division.

Can we just take a second to discuss what the heck is up with Mine That Bird? It's like he's been eating his Wheaties all winter & spring. Haskin said he doesn't look like the same horse, and I was struck by his appearance along with those bullets he's throwing. I've always thought he was a nice little Rodney Dangerfield kinda horse that deserved more respect than he got post-KD. Who knows what he's gonna do this weekend. You'd think Quality Road has the momentum, but our two ladies are more than capable of looking the part of an HOY as they showed last year.

Own division? Z is 3/3 this year, I think 2 G1's.
Rachel is 1/3, losing to 2 horses who both came back to get beat. Right now Z is way way way ahead as far as Older Filly N Mare championship.

Both are so weak they have no real lead yet. The rest of the year will determine the outcome.

I totally agree about them both being weak, but to say Z is not well ahead is kind of silly IMO. They were supposed to face in the AB, Z showed up, Rachel got beat by Zardana and skipped it. I just think Z has done much more, AT THIS POINT.

At this moment the race for HOY is between Quality Road and Zenyatta. Zenyatta holds a slight lead over Quality Road according to this acrticle:

'Quality Road cuts into Zenyatta's lead'
http://www.fresnobee.com/2010/06/28/...zenyattas.html

I don't know who would win HOY if the award was handed out today - but I am 100% certain it would be one of these two. Rachel is making her comeback but she isn't where she needs to be yet. I hope she gets back into perfect form - she's amazing!!!!

If I had a vote it would go to Zenyatta.

Quality Road, from what I see and hear, is believed to be America's best race horse right now...

If HOY was right now and Zenyatta won, I'd probably stop following racing.

Vote today - it would HAVE to be Quality Road.

Eskendera (sp?) deserves it more than "Big Z" at this point in time.

Pumpkin, they vote at the end of the year. I don't give a flying clod of dirt who's "ahead" right now unless it's the big prize cuz I just don't care to waste brain cells on it. My point was everyone's obsessed about HOY and they don't even think that you could have a situation where *gasp* Zenyatta only gets Older Mare and the reigning HOY gets nothing, or Rachel soars to her old self and Zenyatta's return (following her not getting HOY for 2009) not only doesn't gain her the big prize, she doesn't get squat. I'm saying there's a result neither's connections seem to be aware of. They seem to be thinking that of course the big thing is HOY and their horse will get that and older mare both. Coming up empty isn't on their radar from what I can tell.

RA's just now getting herself in gear. She's perfectly capable of earning an Eclipse with sterling performances the rest of the year. There are prizes to be had in the fall that would make everybody go 'New Orleans Ladies what now?'

I think what you said is very realistic... Z get older male and someone else gets HOY... Blame at this point is far ahead of Rachel and Z for HOY.

I feel you are very passionate about this point of view RockHardTen. I'm not going to argue with you about the fact that someone other than Zenyatta would get HOY if the awards were given out right now - but there is no way that Blame is far ahead or even ahead of Zenyatta at this point for HOY award.

With all the West Coast on Zenyatta's bandwagon and with her recent thriller "accomplishment" of 17 races in a row Blame winning more votes than Zenyyata is hard for me to believe.

Blame does not earn more votes than Zenyatta if the award is handed out today...

Blame is 2/2 with a G1 on dirt vs older males... That does it for me. I think Z would have won the Foster had she shown up though.

I just feel there's so much to know and see before the BC. It could all shift radically, becoming very clear or even more confusing. I hate to get too wrapped up in making a decision about where anybody stands. It's like asking who's gonna win the Derby in January and the 2yo champ's not even gotten in gear yet to give you something to think about. We're all driving on gas fumes here. Gotta get some more evidence. Only half the year is up.

I agree, but it won't matter. What matters is who wins from July onward. It just doesn't matter which is ahead right now.
