The other rumor is that if they get Lee, they are going to try to send Vasquez to the Phills for Werth. But it's all rumor and speculation at this point.

I find it hard to believe that Amaro would go for that deal. Would kind of make letting Lee go for peanuts look even worse considering they would be trading for a 34 year old free agent to be Pitcher making 11.5 million this year. So essentially they would have gotten three middling prospects and Javier vasquez for Cliff lee and Jayson werth. Not to mention they have to hope that Vasquez doesnt implode and become a type B FA which means a worse drfat pick if he doesnt resign.

Seattle played Amaro so badly on this. They get Lee for three nothing prospects, get an all star 1/2 season out of him then flip him for a stud first baseman who should be a cornerstone for years. There was zero chance that Texas would have traded Smoak for those three mutts the Phillies got.

Supposedly Montero was going to have to be the one the Yanks sent back. Probably a better move they didnt trade him in the long run as they will probably sign Lee in the off season anyway. Jack Zduriencik played the system about as good as it could be played.

The thread is Lee to NY, so explain to me how it has anything to do with attention? You could have just as easily took it down, rather then respond like an *******.

It's like me starting a new thread saying "LeBron to Heat." There's already a place to discuss it. You admitted you're an attention whore by the "ateam breaks the news" comment.

Yanks almost got him? My God. Can you say pig, or what? They are amazing. Do they understand competition at all, or does it even matter? You've bought one already. Whats to stop you from buying half the rings given out from here on in?

It definitely would of been a piggish move. But at least they would of acquired him via trade having to give up highly reguarded prospects. As opposed to what is most likely going to happen this off season when they just flex their muscle and open their wallet to give Lee more than any other team can/will.

Why should they care about competition? Their goal is to win the world series every year by any method available. Is the system flawed? Absolutely. Should there be some sort of salary cap, probably. But there isn't and until then everyone should expect the same sort of tactics by the biggest bully on the block. But remember that it doesn't always work. They have spent tons of money on guys that have frankly sucked.

I just finished the Joe Torre book and the biggest thing I took out of it was how bad the starting pitching staff really was from 2004-2008. As opposed to the staffs that won them the tittles in their run. They got back to that last year and look where they ended. It's no secret, you can never enough pitching (especially for those short 5 game ALDS series).

I guess the bottom line is that will continue as long as the current system stays in place and with the baseball union being the strongest one in the world, no one should expect any sort of change anytime soon. They are the richest team and want to win, why should they care about any other team?

He got blasted today, giving up 3 homeruns to Baltimore... Somehow they managed to let him throw a complete game.
