You didn't see Ted Kennedy waiting in line at the local clinic, and you won't see any other of his ilk doing it either. Socialism is for the people, not for the socialist.

America better wake up and repeal this as soon as is practical -- at the latest on January 20, 2013.

The point was simply that Timm's statement that they had "earned" their money wasn't entirely true in all cases, or - at the very least - true only if a loose definition of the word "earned" was used.
It had nothing to do with their decision to donate the money, which is why I only quoted one sentence of his post (the sentence to which I was responding).

Or not:

The new health care law has significantly improved the prognosis for Medicare, extending the life of its trust fund by 12 years until 2029, and thereby delaying any need for dramatic changes in benefits or revenues, according to a new report.

The annual check-up from government actuaries overseeing the nation's two central safety-net programs also found that Social Security continues to be much less of a problem than Medicare, and will remain in strong financial shape at least through 2037.

"The financial outlook for the Medicare program is substantially improved as a result of the far-reaching changes in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," concludes the Medicare report -- although the trustees warned that the improvements depend on the successful implementation of the law.

Yeah.

I guess being a government actuary is akin to riding the pine in single A baseball as a relief pitcher for the last 15 years.

So I'll take their numbers with a grain of salt.

can you believe what is said when the statement includes the words 'trust fund'? isn't it a fact that all revenues go to the general fund?

There is a medicare trust fund - check out medicare.gov, Wikipedia, etc.

The report in question has been heavily reported in the general news lately:

CNN Money
"Medicare gets lifeline from health care reform"
http://money.cnn.com/2010/08/05/news...ency_extended/

Reuters
"Health overhaul helps Medicare prospects: report"
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6750BR20100806

MediPage Today
"Healthcare Reform Law Will Extend Life of Medicare Trust Fund"
