"Syndicate" betting?
I'm involved with a bunch of local guys (hardly a syndicate) & we have pooled our money and look to have anywhere from $1K to $1500 to spread throughout Saturday's BC races . . . would appreciate any insight on how to "invest" this - Thanks!

Not enough for the Pk6s and not worth it, but plenty for the Pk4s. I'd start there.

I agree PK3s & PK4s should be the focus. With this kind of arrangement, have a plan in case you guys have an IRS signer(s).

Thanks . . .
appreciate the responses - and to get Gus and Hooves both to banter here was impressive (two of my favorites here!)
This pooling of funds actually got started as a "copycat" to Pat Cumming's terrific Derby superfecta hit by the members of the wedding party that he was involved with. Our family has a wedding on Saturday - so why not invest in a Superfecta or two? Well it has grown to include not only the wedding party and families but also many of the invitees! We will have over $2K to spread - so will do some 10 cent superfectas (and hit 'em 10 or more times), some P3's and P4's - so maybe we can have a "fun" night at our reception? Best of luck to all DT'ers on this great weekend at the races! |

Syndication bets are interesting; I have done it a few times over the years either in BC races or a triple crown races.
Best: I picked the horse in the 2002 Belmont, we (3 people) placed a bet wheeling 1 horse 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a $1 superfecta. I picked Madalia de Oro who ran second to 69-1 longshot Sarava. Total bet I believe was $2280; I put in 25% of the cost and we hit the superfecta for $76,000.00 Worst: 2004 Breeder's cup A 5 group syndication of friends went after the Ultra pick 6 at the BC in Lone Star. With a pick 6 ticket that had a total investment of a little over $9600.00. I had a heated argument with these friends because; The hated Bobby Frankel breeder's cup record and did not wanted to include the 2nd choice; Ghostzapper thinking he was a sprint/miler. Not only we would've had the lone winning ticket. I played a back up pick 4 ticket and used Ghostzapper as a bullet. And we know the rest of the story; Ghostzapper won, 5 of 6 was the pay out...we missed taking down $2 million dollars, my pick 4 ticket paid $9200 and I am still pissed today and have not made another syndication bet again. Moral to the story...syndication bet are good if the people investing are on the same page. A 15 minute argument became a grudge for 6 years for some friends. |
