Default Lava Man

Very surprised this horse gets no mention on this board. Won his 2nd straight on the turf yesterday in dominant fashion. Done absolutely nothing wrong this year, quickly asserting himself as easily the best older horse in training.
Yet absolutely no threads about this guy. Amazing.

I just mentioned him.

I'll copy and paste.

The most impressive to me was Lava Man.

Regardless of whether he is "an eagle...a BALD EAGLE"

This horse should be the most popular thing in America right now. Grade one winner on turf and dirt...front running.

He is starting to remind me of an Aussie horse named Might and Power. If he keeps this up he will be very similar. The Aussies loved that horse and we should do the same with Lava Man.

The bald eagle comment was because Whittingham was nicknamed such, that is why Vic said that

Why should I LOVE this horse ? I have never loved a west coast horse...frauds, running against 5-horse fields most of the time.
Leading up to the TC we heard how the west coast had all the best contenders............Bo Derek; Bob Your Johnson; Cause To Deceive; the "Pointer" brothers; not to mention Stevie Wonderbread.
Blah !!!!!

Lava Man is a very good horse that has been showing superb form lately. Lava Man is an older horse and all the others you mentioned were three year olds. Cause to Believe has never been a top three year old contender for the TC races. Bob and John's is limited to 1 1/8 mile distances. Stevie Wonderboy won the BC Juvenile on the east coast before he got hurt. Hopefully, he will be back. Brother Derek got two very good fourths in two TC races and a fourth in the BC Juvenile when his trips were horrible. He will win more stakes races. Bob and John won the Wood Memorial. Sinister Minister won the Bluegrass Stakes. He was also a west coast horse.

What are you telling me that I don't know? I know Lava Soap is an older horse; I referred to the others as contenders for the TC (and I'm quite aware that that means they are 3 yr olds). Where was Bo's two "very good" 4ths in the TC races?
"BJ" won the Wood and hasn't been seen within shouting distance since.
You just made my point....they were all the "top" contenders till the going got rough.
I'd like to have a dollar for everytime I heard Cause To Deceive had everything you need to win the Derby...of course that was before he left the friendly confines of Northern Cal.

There is no need to call the horses names. All of these horses earned their way into the TC races, and there aren't very many that make it to that level. Also, very few liked Cause to Believe for the Derby. He is a very nice little horse that got a good third in the Illinois Derby to a very very good horse in Sweet Northern Saint. The TC is over. It is time to start looking toward the summer/fall campaign. I bet when Brother Derek comes back rested, he is going to make some noise. Bob and John could beat a lot of these horses at lesser distances than the TC races. Point Determined will also probably improve with time. I see him as that kind of horse. And what do you mean where were Brother Derek's two good fourths in the TC races? Did you not see how much trouble the horse got in? He was the second best horse in the Derby based on his trip.

What a stupid response, we shouldnt like Lava Man because hes from the West and the 3 year olds from out there this year arent really all that good. Its his fault horses like Bob & John become favorites in triple crown races. Geez. If he wins out the rest of the year including the BC Classic we shouldnt give him horse of the year because Bob & John's poor results in the triple crown. That makes total sense.

Bro will make some noise alright....oink,oink. So he had a rough trip in the Derby;he was used to beating up on 5-horse fields before that.Evrey year about 10 horses get rough trips in the Derby...no excuse (Jazil's jockey lost an iron yesterday at the start...still went on to win).
BJ couldn't beat Platinum Couple, but becuase he held the lead awhile yestreday, he's gonna be a terror at shorter distances ??
My point(taken)...for the third time....is that the West Coast horses were talked about as the top contenders for the TC (one knowledgable "talker" stated that Barbaro was a turf horse and not fast enough to win the Derby).

And you are?????
Look Mr O'Neill, all I said was West Coast horses get a lot of unwarranted hype. I said nothing about not giving him HOY; you give me a big "IF".If he wins this ;if he wins that.
AND, I DID'T say YOU shouldn't like him or YOU shouldn't give him HOY..........................., but you did say that I should love him.
Fugettaboutit.

Are they planning on keeping this horse on the grass or moving him back to the dirt?

Ultimately his main goal is the BC Classic. So I bet he goes next in the Pacific Classic.

The big picture is the Breeders Cup Classic. Now that this horse has won so much money I don't think the purses will dictate when and where they run. This horse has been able to rise to the top from the claiming ranks, lose his top form and come back to the top. This is what is really special about this horse and now to show it on dirt and turf.

Apparently he got the lead yesterday and was allowed to run the first 1/2 uncontested in 49.91. Was it a slow track there yesterday, or did he just catch a break?

The turf was fast, but not as fast as the first part of the meet. P. Val brought Kings Drama right to him from the start and it look like he was going to make a race of it, but when Cory gave Lava Man his head he RAN away from the field with ease. Very impressive. The closing 1/2 was 45/1
