Default Discreetly Mine retired

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...y-mine-retired

Beyond disappointing for me. This was a colt I had high hopes for from the start. He didn't really want to stretch out, but after the Derby, Pletcher found his niche as a terrific sprinter. I really thought he was going to be a top sprinter this year.

First Crawford to the Red Sox, now this. Thank God we're kicking off Tampa with 10K claimers, otherwise my week would have gone completely to the shiz

In other related Pletcher (former) news Pluck is going to race in Europe next year. That should last for about 15 minutes. If Barry Irwin thinks Pluck can be competitive in Europe then Bobby Flay and the Phillips should plan on sending More Than Real and Winter Memories to the Arc.

Leave Flay alone.. He is one friggin lucky guy. He works very hard on racing and I root for him to have some mazel. I wonder why he hasnt named a horse Ancho Chilli since it is basically the only thing taste when you eat at his joints.

Fredo, I love Flay. Ever since opening day 2009 at Saratoga when he showed up an hour before the first and sat in his box handicapping I've been an even bigger fan.

More Than Real's win was good for me. I think it was probably the last time she'll ever beat Winter Memories but I certainly hope they both develop into nice 3YOs.

When he called Byk's show out of the blue, I realized he was decent. I was very happy to see him in the winners circle BC day, not crazy about him diving into the Pletcher barn but who can blame anyone for giving Pletcher horses, they win and then they.............whatever.

I forgot to include that Discreetly Mine was Mineshaft's first (and only) Grade I winner to date. Remember when he stood for 100k?

A better ride and he would've had 2 in an hour on Fly Down

And that would have enabled him to best his Lane's End colleague Pleasantly Perfect 2-1 in terms of Grade I winners produced.

In all fairness, he didn't have THAT bad a year with Fly Down and Redding Colliery in addition to Discreetly Mine. That being said, when your fee is 1/4th of what it started at after four crops it says a lot about your productivity.

I always thought he was overrated on the track as well.

Not really - there have been a whole lot worse who got a whole lot more hype.

Neil Howard was his trainer for crying out loud - Neil Howard.
