Default A horrible thought

I know the plan calls for Machen to stay at middle distances around one turn, but does anyone happen to know what last night's win gives him in total graded earnings?

It has to be asked.

"He just came out of the race so well..."

"He's really developed in the last 4 or 5 weeks...."

"We always thought he'd handle two turns..."

$202,800 total. 124K last night. With his 4rth in the Risen Star couldn't be much more.

I really liked this guy before the Risen Star....he has talent, but he won't get in and wouldn't be ready anyway.

Neil Howard stated on HRTV after his win that they would not rush him back into route races but keep him at 1 turn races, he appeared to be genuine in his feelings.

B. Wayne Hughes' Don't Get Mad won the Derby Trial off a poor Santa Anita Derby effort and was able to get into the Kentucky Derby field a week later. He also looked liked a late-running miler-type, and proved to be so later on, but he did run a good 4th in the Derby.

Of course, that was the year Giacomo won, and besides that plodder and Don't Get Mad, sucker horses Wilko and Andromeda's Hero were also seen to be passing horses down the stretch.

Not sure if there is going to be a massive pace meltdown this year, although it's sure to be a staggerfest regardless of the pace, given the field lining up.
