Farewell, Meese Rocks
I stopped doing threads for particular horses that I liked if they had passed for fear of being slammed (cause I had been, repeatedly).
Screw that. She was a really nice horse and never got a thread in life, so... A touching bit about this fine girl and the people she leaves behind. Maybe I have a long list of horses I'll never forget but she is definately on it. Good night, good girl. A shame. Deepest condolences to her people. http://terranovaracingstable.blogspo...ese-rocks.html |

That's a shame, she was a hard-knocking horse. RIP

Laminitis kills too many horses that otherwise would be saved, it's a terrible thing.
What a lovely tribute they have written of their girl. Condolences to her family.

Just awful. Heart goes out to Barker and the owners. She was the goods.

From The Owners
As the owners of the late Meese Rocks, we wanted to collectively send a tremendous, heartfelt thank you the Derby Trail community for starting this thread and for your kind words. When we decided to start this tiny stable only 2.5 years ago, we never in our wildest dreams could have imagined that we would have a horse talented enough to win high-level races while simultaneously capturing the love and respect of a wide array of thoroughbred fans. Meese Rocks' passing at once embodies the highest of highs and lowest of lows in thoroughbred ownership. However, the support that we have received (mostly from perfect strangers such as yourselves) gives us tremendous strength in an otherwise very difficult time.
Thank you so much for your kind words of support. We cannot adequately express how meaningful it is to us to know that there are others out there (near and far) that were able to appreciate and admire our mare the way that we could. We are going to leave the post up for a few days longer, as there will be a bit more local coverage. Please stay up on our blog to follow our journey as we try to pick up the pieces. Again, from the bottoms of our hearts, thank you sincerely. May our girl rest in peace. Terranova Racing Stable |

Maybe years from now you'll be standing in the winner's circle of a BC race and you can silently dedicate your glorious win to her. I know the holes in your hearts will always remain and for that I'm profoundly sorry. Thank you for sharing your beautiful girl with us... on the track, in memories, with the eloquent and heartbreaking news. Some of us consider ourselves to be more cappers than fans and vice versa and so just the fact that the people who are verbal on this thread cross and blur all those sometimes obvious lines around here? What that really means is that your horse was one of the rare ones that we can agree on. She defined heart. Not only is that the supreme complement... it's a reflection on you and how she was handled. I have no right to speak for all of us here but I think it's probably okay this time. All of you are in our thoughts and we will never forget Meese Rocks. |

Meese Rocks was a tough and determined mare who tried every time. I'm sure her people did everything that they could for her and will miss her very much. (I know she beat me a time or two, but also won for me.)
RIP Meese Rocks Thank you too to the Terranova Stable for posting about her. So many times horses just "disappear" and fans are left wondering (and often worrying) about what happened to them. No one likes to post such sad news but it does give fans of a horse a bit more understanding about the horse and it's nice to know that owners and handlers care as much as they do. I just lost my boy, Monroe (avatar) to colic on Preakness day so I fully sympathize.

Linny, so very sorry to hear about your boy Monroe. Very sad news indeed. I wish I had some magic words to make you feel better but we both know those words don't exist. Just know I'm thinking about you and Monroe. I was not aware of Meese Rocks but clearly she was such a very special mare. My heart goes out to everyone involved with, and close to this very special mare. Sad news all around. |

I suspect he may be up there bucking off Man O'War's exercise rider. He had one heck of a leap. He liked to jump, maybe he's trying 'chasing?
Thank you for the condolences. I still can't believe he's gone. I haven't had the heart to bring my tack box home.
