Default Good Sign for Bernardini fans???

Looks like Bernardini might not be retired after all.

They announced they'll be standing 11 stallions for 2007...

Darley America's 2007 fees:

Cherokee Run $40,000 Stands and nurses
Consolidator $20,000 Stands and nurses
E Dubai $15,000 Stands and nurses
Elusive Quality $100,000 Stands and nurses
Holy Bull $15,000 Stands and nurses
Kafwain $10,000 Stands and nurses
Offlee Wild $10,000 Stands and nurses
Quiet American $20,000 Stands and nurses
Rockport Harbor $20,000 Stands and nurses
Rossini TBA
Street Cry $30,000 Stands and nurses

I'd imagine if they were planning on retiring him they wouldnt have claimed only 11 stallions to stud and also list him as a "tba". Again, not set in stone, but I think this is a good sign.

Believe me, knowing how the American media is - they would have jumped big at any European story last week that allegedly reported Bernardini to be retired at years end....DRF, Thoroughbred Times, Bloodhorse, AP - ALL of the major trades would have been hot on the news and nothing has been reported in America since that alleged breaking news last week, which says one thing to me - BULLCRAP

...Just another rumor started by somebody.....

Yes, but Steve Haskin said on a ATRAB show last week that, in this year's BC magazine, there is a Darley ad that says....."Coming soon........the next big thing"..........and just pic of the top of a horse's head. That's probably Bernardini. However, I feel like there is a ray of hope now. I hope so- the Sheikh would be doing a serious disservice to the horse if he retires him at 3

I'd love to see him run next year more than anyone but I'll agree with the rumor idea. IMO he has just one more race.

Maybe it was for Rockport Harbor? I don't recall seeing any ads for him yet and maybe that was a way of building the hype to justify the $20,000 fee they settled on for him.

I think they may wait to see how he does in the BCC. If he wins he's retired, if he loses they will take it out on Every horse in all the major Stakes races next year.

This is a cute post but ridiculous. What race would he come back for next year, the Whitney. lol. After you win the Classic and you have his pedigree there is no reason to keep racing.

I’m definitely a dini fan, this is great news !!! I like to see (like rest of the you) a horse with a longer career, unfortunately business aspect demands otherwise. Win a few Graded Stakes and into the breeding shed..

I disagree, imo an important aspect of horse racing is "Racing". What do you prove by winning four to six life time races ?? pedigree ?? please !!!

I agree with this. To me, the whole point of breeding is to breed for racing. It makes no sense to me to retire a perfectly sound horse when he/she can race for another season so that racing fans can check it out. Personally, I hope he runs next year. I'd love to see him up close.

Oh I would love it too. Start with the Donn move your way up and grap the Stephen Foster then onto Belmont to grab the Suburban keep going up I-87 grab the Whitney and then back down to LI and defend his JCGC crown.

Maybe Darley would like to see a Cigar-like campaign. Stranger things have happened.

I expect to see Bern in the World Cup if he remains sound.

God knows that is what this sport needs a traveling superstar.

i just saw the ad in the magazine, opened it up when i read this post.

thing is, this whole feud with coolmore....and giant's causeway is having a hell of a career at stud thus far.

i hope they run bern next year, but i have my doubts.

also, i guess everyone noted discreet cats entry in the bcc as 'insurance'.

Tomorrow's DRF article on the Classic says Bernardini is expected to be retired after the Classic:

"The unbeaten Discreet Cat is expected to make his next start in the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct on Nov. 25. He will remain in training next year, whereas Bernardini is expected to be retired following the Classic. Discreet Cat was pre-entered merely as an insurance policy in case something unforeseen strikes Bernardini before final entries are due, and post positions are drawn, next Wednesday."
