Default Alarmist Stories Misportray Social Security Disability Insurance

Alarmist Stories Misportray Social Security Disability Insurance
August 23, 2011 at 11:20 am

Quote:
Social Security’s disability-insurance program is forecast to run short of money in 2018, more than six years from now, and policymakers can plug the hole for several decades by reallocating some taxes from the related old-age program as they have done in the past. But that’s not the impression you’d get from some alarmist reports. “Social Security disability on verge of insolvency” blares a Fox News story, a theme echoed by other outlets (see here and here).

.... [detailed story with data]

that's more than six years from now.

oh, then why worry? that's so far off into the future. and absolutely just move money from somewhere else. why, old-age programs don't need money. by all means, rob peter to pay paul. it always works well.

i read that new apps for ssdi are up 50% above the norm, with the economy and joblessness what it is.

yeah, i am figuring if someone told you that you had six years left in this world, you might think that wasn't much time at all.
thing is, the constant response from d.c. is that there's no need to move on things, that there's plenty of time for a fix. but the longer we wait, the harsher that fix becomes. pay now, or pay later...but either way, you have to pay. procrastination solves nothing. neither does ignoring...but hey, if you leave it for the next guy, you avoid contention, angering voters, getting that re election...and after all, that is what is most important, right?

I will start stockpiling ramen noodles and peanut butter now. In 6 years I will go door to door and sell it to social security victim.....I mean recipients. Then I will have so much money I can start making huge win bets like Sneeatlescrubs.

Me too!!! I might as well get ready for the demise of SS. You won't have to worry about that, Clyde. The people of Ohio will be able to live off of unsold vending items from Cavalier games.

The Republicans need their election talking points, and they realize that "kill Obamacare" can't fly again, as too many Americans are already benefiting from it.

Thus, although the GOP backed off on embracing the radioactive and election-killing Paul Ryan budget plan failure, they are proceeding with self-destruction by telling grandma they are not going to keep their government hands off her Medicare and Social Security.

The Republican party is very strange nowadays. They are campaigning upon removing the social safety nets of our society, while that society is down and out. And 1/5 of Americans are embracing their own destruction. Very strange, indeed.

Oh, I can't listen to Ed Schultz or Olbermann, either. But at least they are not filled with the obvious racism and hate of Limbaugh and Beck. The GOP runs rings around the Democrats when it comes to messaging, and teaching the base to respond as desired. Always have.

The prefect example is right now, when the GOP are getting their elderly base to actually support giving up their Medicare and Social Security to privateers. Unbelievable.

Obvious racism? You are delusional! Limbaugh is mostly satirical in his show
and It pains me that people write him off with their diatribes. I like Beck, but dont really sit down and watch his show. I dont know where he's going
with some of his stuff, but if you dont think there is some truth in his theories, you havent really been paying attention at all

No, Limbaugh is a repeated, unapologetic racist.

If you think he "satirical" ... wow.

"Top Ten racist Limbaugh quotes" (just google, they are everywhere)

1. “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”

2. “Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.”

3. “Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

4. “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”

5. “They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”

6. [To an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

7. ”I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.”

8. Limbaugh’s many attacks on Obama.

Limbaugh has called Obama a ‘halfrican American’ has said that Obama was not Black but Arab because Kenya is an Arab region, even though Arabs are less than one percent of Kenya. Since mainstream America has become more accepting of African-Americans, Limbaugh has decided to play against its new racial fears, Arabs and Muslims. Despite the fact Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, Limbaugh has called him an ‘affirmative action candidate.’ Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ using an antiquated Jim Crow era term for Black a man who many Americans are supporting for president. Way to go Rush.

So Rush Limbaugh has managed to make racist attacks on four of the most admired and respected people of African descent in the past one hundred years, in Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Colin Powell and Barack Obama. He has claimed that Joe the Plumber, who isn’t even a plumber is more important in this election than Colin Powell, a decorated military veteran who has served honorably in three administrations.

9. “We need segregated buses… This is Obama’s America.”

10. “Obama’s entire economic program is reparations.”

Beck hasn't had a show on GOP-TV for some months now. He was boycotted for a year, advertisers left, and Faux kicked him off the air.

I hear Beck still has his radio show, but he just was in Israel and was terribly received there, his "tour" was mostly imported Americans and a failure.

Boy...you're pretty thin skinned if you dont think those quotes were said just to rile the left into a continuing tizzy. But its apparent that you only are concerned about appearance, not substance!...so be on your way...have fun!

limbaugh is absolutely a racist...a bigot and misogynist as well. if you want to call it satire, that is your choice. not quite sure how you arrived at that conclusion.

So your contention is that Rush Limbaugh is only pretending to be a racist.

Yeah. Not buying it, thanks.

Those quotes are very deliberate on Limbaughs part, but it's to rile up his audience of dittohead believers into a tizzy of hate. Geesh, propaganda is propaganda! Rushbo crossed the line years ago. He's all about hate: hate for blacks, hate for women, hate for minorities, hate for illegals, hate for non-conservatives.,

Yeah, that "mantra" is based upon your "satirist" Limbaughs actual statements. You'll notice 'Zig agrees, and expands his racism to include Limbaugh's obvious misogyny and bigotry, too.

OK...I'll concede that Zig is the moderate, but I not a dittohead by any means. But I'm not getting into the rest of it...i simply havent heard him....I've read what people said he said....in most of the examples it could be brushed away......entertainmemt....you would be correct if he was an elected official.....just like I dont listen to a thing Howard Stern or Mathews say.
