That would be a silly assumption, considering the current crop of whacky cult members pretending to be candidates.

Our options next year will be Dumb and Dumber.

Hopefully the dude from Utah gets the nod. That or Ron Paul. I've given up on my choice of Newt.. he wont make the nomination.

Or, you could go with Rick Perry, the Dominionist who just accepted millions in federal funds for rail development in Texas.

i agree with his move...as an aside, i am not sure why taking federqal dollars has become anathema. the fed should never have become the clearinghouse for our money, taking in billions and then 'bestowing its largesse'. its our money, not the feds money.

So about the same number of additional people die or would die as cirrhosis of the liver - why are we not banning alcohol?

How about the parents of asthmatic kids moving them away from LA?

Or would that require too much self-responsibility?

You know how it is nowadays Dell. You smoke for 30 years then sue the tobacco company when you get cancer.. You buy a house on a flood plan which requires flood insurance and then when you flood you raise your hands crying that the government should buy you out.

What the hell does that have to do with the article? You - again - didn't even read it, did you?

How about everybody else? You know, the people that don't have asthma that live there: heart attacks, strokes, COPD, emphysema, sinus infections, ear infections, hypertension?

Or are you really taking the position that people should be allowed to pollute our common air with impunity?

It becomes an anathema - rather, blatant hypocrisy - when the person - in this instance, Rick Perry - publicly says it is an anathema to his supporters, over and over, making that a campaign stand and making it the very subject of his most recent book, "Fed Up!", and a heavy dose in his previous book.

But then he takes that money. For high-speed rail. Or to balance his repeatedly overdrawn budget (while he credits his own self for that and campaigns upon it)

And it is "the feds" money, because our Constitution gives us the power to collect taxes for our common good. "Largesse" is a strange choice of words. We live in a cooperative society, that we agree to all contribute towards financially. It is one of the major differences between the articles we had before the Constitution, and what they fine-tuned the Constitution to include.

i have been studying us history a lot lately, my current focus is the civil war era. however, i have also done a lot of reading about this countrys founding. the fed was never meant to be the bloated thing it has become, a collector and redistributor of tax money. local pols trumpeting their success at getting 'federal funds' while everyone ignores how the fed got those funds to begin with. i get your point tho about pols decrying taking money and then touting that receipt of funds. but the issue should really be the system itself. it makes no sense.
matter of fact, as far as money redistribution goes, and how it makes NO sense...look at homeland security. when they started parceling that money out, you had communities screaming for their fair share, when in fact many of those communities arent any target at all..so then legit targets dont get enough to cover their needs. its a joke.

I agree with alot of what you said, above.

I just read a fascinating article. Written by "Mike Lofgren retired on June 17 after 28 years as a Congressional staffer. He served 16 years as a professional staff member on the Republican side of both the House and Senate Budget Committees."

It outlines, very succinctly and clearly, as I've not otherwise seen, the current state of disruptive politics in this country, in Washington, the goals and behind-the-scenes plans of the current Republican party (and evangelical interaction) and tells why he retired now. A bit long, but worth it.

And no, he doesn't like or favor Democrats.

I don't know that you valued our opinion? My opinion is that Obama wants to win the election. It isn't like the guy is on the wrong side of an issue 100% of the time...

Chuck, Ship's Cabin just came back and raced at Arlington Thursday - I think first race? Didn't do anything, but looked good

Is every topic going to lead to you knocking Perry now? I guess you ran out of Palin material?

I don't remember agreeing to contribute financially to society.
