It doesn't seem right to say "happy" Memorial Day so I'd just like to thank the families of those who served and who are no longer with us.

It's not right only to think of them a couple of days of the year but for those of us guilty of things like that it doesn't diminish our gratitude, our respect and our gratefulness.

... and thank you, of course, to all the rest, to all the servicemen and women, past and present.

We would be nothing without you so please always know that you are in our hearts - all of you... defenders of freedom.

I'm half English with my mother coming here from London during WWII when the last V2 bomb the German's dropped landed on her families apartment building killing her mother, father, and brother.

60 years later I am in Cambridge, Englnad at the Duxford Air Force Base and there's a US cemetary for all the figher pilots that served during that time to fight off the Germans in the same battle that killed my mother's family, but saved her by winning the battle.

It was then I realized what memorial day means as I looked over the tomb stones that literally are the reason I exist.

it wasnt long ago that i read that patton was buried overseas, with the men he had commanded. i guess i had just figured they brought him home to bury him after he died from the car accident.
i went to the ww1 museum in kansas city almost two years ago. you walk over a small area that is supposed to look like flanders fields, with the poppies. we don't have any living ww1 vets anymore, and we are losing hundreds daily from ww2.

Heard aboout this gentleman on the way to work tonight listening to Red Sox play by play guys who interviewed him last week. Our hero here discussed the secret of his longevity to which he credited an avoidance of all contact with TV......Single his entire life, never fathered a child, enjoyed a morning eye opener smoking a quality cigar at breakfast but kept that brain rottening, soul evacuating radiation box far far from him......tough to argue with.

A disabled Iraq vet giving a speech following a parade, said he appreciates people thanking him for his service but that's why we have Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is about the martyrs.

Just got back from 4 great days back home in PA...
On monday we were at my sis's apmt and in the lobby i spotted a guy with a WWII cap..I had my AF cap on..told him my 4 years were all in country..thanked him for his service and said 'you look too young to be a WWII vet'...he said heck man i'm 88!..we chatted for awhile...good guy..

Saw an article on Yahoo last month about the last reunion of the Doolittle Raiders. One of them is 97 and can still fly a B-25!!! Good to see that some of those guys are still around. Took some big cojones to go on that mission.
