Today House Republicans vote against extending Bush tax cuts for middle class

House Republicans are set to vote against 98 percent of their constituents today, again. Democrats are going to offer an extension on the middle class tax cuts, letting the cuts for the wealthiest expire.

Republicans will almost certainly reject that, refusing to vote against this middle class tax cut unless the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans are also extended.

They will be rejecting the only viable path for extending the cuts for the middle class: the Senate has already rejected extending the tax cuts for the rich, and won't pass the House bill.

The Republicans won't just be voting against working families, they'll be voting against their own political interests, Today's Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times of critical swing states shows that once again:



Results of Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll in FL, OH, PA on raising taxes on income over $250,000

In Florida, 58 percent of voters support raising taxes on income over $250,000. That goes up to 60 percent in Ohio, and 62 percent in Pennsylvania. Nationally, the most recent Pew Poll shows that the American people believe that letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire is both good for the economy and good for fairness.

But for Republicans, voting with Grover Norquist comes before voting for the interests of their constituents. Don't expect that to change with today's vote.

the tax cuts, if not extended, will end. thus, a tax increase is looming. see, the senate already said they will not vote to extend the tax cuts on the wealthy-which means that the republicans in the house have decided if the rich can't get to keep their cuts, no one can. house dems had already passed a measure to keep the cuts in place for everyone except those making over a quarter million a year.
so, with one vote, republicans have gone against what a sizable portion of their constituents wanted....but that sizeable portion of voters doesn't equal the sizeable portion of $$$ coming from the wealthy-so they voted their pocketbooks. but, that's fine. as i said before, i'd rather they all end. the wealthiest are already paying less taxes now than in any time over the preceding 80 years.

Just to add, that those making over $250,000 a year still retain these tax cuts everyone else does, on all funds less than $250,000 a year. It is only funds over $250,000 income that will have a tax increase.

I support practically zero point zero of what has been done in Washington DC since 1992. I do not support Mitt Romney for President, I think he could possibly be better than President Obama but that is only based on Obama being very bad at the position.

Obama is doing great, actually Taxes at historic all-time low, the deficit going down, government spending cut, auto industry saved, bin Laden and Al Quaeda decimated, one war over, another winding down, and 40 million more with health care availability, billions saved from Medicare which has extended it's life 12 years.

Yesterday, my town had a single-issue election. We currently only allow alcohol to be served in restaurants. The YES or NO ballot was for alcohol package sales to be allowed locally.

There are over 20,000 eligible voters in my county. Only 4500 us voted. To the rest of the complainers and moaners this am, who did not bother to vote and yet are unhappy with the way the vote went: too bad.

I will vote, even democratic in my congressional election, though I will likely go third party on President despite how awesome things are going based on wherever it is you are getting your news.

I'm glad you are going to be a voter. I hope your state hasn't changed ID laws so you cannot. You might check on that if you live in a Voter Suppression state, where some voter ID's people have used for years have now been disallowed by GOP legislatures.

5 million currently voting, legal American citizens will be prevented from voting this election in November. Don't be one of them!

I live in CO they are looking into voter fraud here too. I drive a car, pay taxes, own a business, have healthcare, provide healthcare, own a home, have bank accounts, adopted a dog etc. all things that require some kind of ID, I am cleared to vote.

All reporting a fantastic economy and what a wonderful world we live in since the election of '08 are they?

No, I am talking about the new GOP voter suppression laws: states that have taken currently and long-used valid voter id's, and eliminated them as useable.

Where 5 million current voters, with currently "valid voter ID", won't be able to use that ID to vote again in November.

Don't worry, Colorado hasn't done that. Multiple other states have, however. There are gonna be 5 million angry American citizens, who are on the voter rolls, who have always voted legally, that are gonna be really pissed November 6 when they are denied their right to vote, and their current Voter ID is no longer deemed valid.

so, you're not supporting romney either? bankers caused a lot of the current problems, and romney wants to remove regulations put back into place to curb their ability to commit further mayhem.

BTW, your suggestion is "treason". Just sayin' :-)

How would you react this November 6, when, as an American citizen, you walk into your polling place, you say hello to the neighbors you know that are working the polls (they all know who you are), they find your name in the voter registration log, and they tell you, sorry, your driver's license isn't enough to allow you to vote, and you cannot.

How will you feel, and what will be your reaction?

My reaction is that not one eligible American citizen should be prevented from voting by Jim Crow laws.

i don't support Romney but prefer crap over a stick in the eye thus he has my vote.

The mayhem would cease if banks were allowed to fail. Jeez same with the post office and most any other government supported program.
