Default Goodbye USPO

You've done enough and have earned a spot next to the buggy whip.

Imagine the green house gases and trees saved not to mention taxpayer money!

You gave us Son of Sam, the saying 'going postal' and the Seinfeld character Newman. Well done

I find it ridiculous that the Republicans in Congress demanded that the USPO fund retirement funds years in advance, in a deliberate effort to eliminate the PO, and also refuse to allow the PO to raise rates to what is needed to break even.

Raising rates does not increase demand, which is the problem with the post office.

No, the problem with the post office is that they have plenty of money to fund their daily operations, if they were not required to take that money and instead fund pension benefits years in advance to the tune of millions of dollars.

Votes: Dec 8, 2006: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote. A record of each representative’s position was not kept.

Dec 9, 2006: This bill passed in the Senate by Unanimous Consent. A record of each senator’s position was not kept.

Additionally, two of the three cosponsors for this bill were Democrats and you just don’t get more “liberal” than Henry Waxman (D-CA):

No, it references far more than that. Didn't read the whole thing, did ya?

Sigh .... I give up

Blogs are really excellent news sources. Stop with the opinion pieces, bring some data or proof you are supposed to be a scientist.

Since 95% of mail delivered is unsolicited, bulk rate junk mail, how's about raising the bulk rate 4000%?

Eliminates virtually all junk mail, and if it doesn't eliminate it (because the advertisers choose to pay the new rate), it at least pays for itself, for once.

What other advertising medium is subsidized by the govt. to the manner and degree that the USPS is?

Either way, it drops this asinine necessity of keeping the dinosaur on life support.

Scale it back to where it needs to be, or force the abusers to pay their fair share to use it.

Pretty goddamn simple, really.

Great ideas

and how about the workers funding their own insurance and retirement? Like the vast majority of the 70% not on the public dole do?

I posted it because it contains facts. Are you denying that Congress has required the USPS to fund their retirement funds with millions years in advance? That's true.

there is a place to go online (ironic, huh?) where you can cut out most unsolicited mail. i did that a few years back, it greatly reduced the amount of credit card solicitations as one example. do not call, do not mail.
as for bill paying, i do the vast majority thru auto pay or online. i'm sure most of us do. when i look at the huge, new, state of the art facility about an hour from here, i just shake my head. and they wonder why they're in the red?

I am denying that it is new and the result of "Republicans in Congress" when in fact it was voted on unanimously by both houses in 2006.

Set them free! Remove all regulations to fund any health and retirement benifits and let them sink or swim.

In this case the taxpayer has done enough floating all the benifits and health care costs. Chapter 7 sounds fine!

The creditors will be paid out in BK court!

Imagine the savings and beauty of having American streets uncluttered wo/mail boxes!
