Default Ugh, winter's almost here a sure sign

Just went out and got Sunday's DRF. First track I look at is Aqueduct as usual, and there is no stakes race. Thats it, the surest sign that winter is almost here. This is the first Sunday since last winter where no stakes race will be run, which is what happens up here in the winter.
In addition to that, there are 6 tracks in my edition of the DRF, Aqueduct, calder, CD, Philly Park, Delaware, and Hollywood. Out of the 6 tracks in there, only 3 stakes races are being run with none being graded or worth more than 100 grand(Hollywood has a 60K grass stakes, Calder has a 45K stakes race, and Churchill has a 100K grass sprint stakes race). Anybody know the last time we had a Sunday without a graded stakes race at any track?
When you pick up a weekend DRF and can't find any graded stakes, you KNOW winter is almost here.
Guess I better search the closet for my gloves, winter hat, boots, and winter jacket.

LS must have the biggest card today about a million. They only use the granstand side of the track. Wonder how big the purses would be if the used the entire track?

we're having a hard time getting tix to the razorbacks/tigers matchup the day after thanksgiving, as all these fans who bleed 'russian boar red' are convinced they are national title bound, and are looking to win the first 'boot bowl' in four years. sigh

at any rate, i said half in jest to my better half, 'hey, we could go to fairgrounds'. he kind of shook his head and then thought a moment and said if that's what you want to do.

ahhhh, life is good.

go tennessee! beat the heck out of arkansas, so i can go to the game--i'll go to fairgrounds another wknd.

Well I think the biggest clue is that it is just 6 weeks until Winter.
