Default Keep The Mvp In The D!

With one game left it looks like Cabrera will be the first person since 67 to win the triple crown and the 14th person overall. Trout is rookie of the year, not MVP. It would be a damn shame for Cabby not to get the AL MVP, but since Trout plays in the LA market and Cabrera in Detroit I can picture some bs like that happening. Not to take anything away from trouts great year, but it will be awhile before we have another triple crown.

while Trout had an amazing year that would be deserving of an MVP... I just can't imagine a guy winning the triple crown and NOT getting the MVP award.

Does Cabrera play today or pull a Jose Reyes?

He plays.

Isn't Home Runs the only category he can get caught in? If so, he really has nothing to gain by sitting.

probably. Certainly wont get caught in RBI's unless someone hits multiple grand slams. Tho I wonder if he goes 0-5 and trout goes 5-5 if that would change things for BA. I'd look up the stats and calculate but I'm lazy.

Unless Hamilton hits 2 hrs and had like a 10 RBI game it's a done deal, but Hamilton is def. capable of multiple hr games and lots of rbis, but that seems like a huge stretch. I'd sit Cabrera and that shouldn't cheapen his Triple Crown one but. Players get days off and the Tigers have nothing to gain today so why not rest the big fella. Or DH him and if he's 0-2 I would pull him from the game, even if Hamilton ties him in home runs its still considered a triple crown, would be a little sweeter outright though.

If they do sit him I hope we don't have to hear any crap about it that it was cheap or anything else because he didn't play the last game, it's a 162 game season and guys take days off, Trout didn't even play the first month of the season I believe.

It is easy to make a case for either guy but lets not kid ourselves NDman, Trout had a better season simply because he is a better baseball player. Cabrera is a great hitter but seriously he is a terrible fielder and poor runner. Trout not only is a great hitter (at age 20!) but is a great Center fielder and leads the league in stolen bases! Despite not even being called up till May.

138 games
129 runs (leads league)
180 hits
26 2b
8 3b (3rd in league)
30 HR
49 sb vs 4 cs (leads league)
.324 avg (2nd)
.397 obp (2nd)
.561 slg (3rd)
169 OPS+ (1st)
10.7 WAR (1st by a long ways)
8.6 Offensive WAR (leads league)
2.1 Defensive WAR (7th in league)
136 Runs created (2nd)

I cant argue if people want to vote for Caberera but the idea that he deserves it because his team made the playoffs and the Angels didnt is tempered by the fact that the Angels have a better record than the Tigers. Cabrera doesnt deserve credit for the White Sox folding nor does Trout deserve demerits because the A's and Rangers didnt. Cabrera is a great hitter that had a great year but if Josh Hamilton doesnt get hurt and miss 15 games he probably doesnt win the Triple Crown and probably doesnt win MVP.

Listen I love Caberera and have been a fan for a longtime as the recent redboard post can attest to. The guy is on a level with Pujols and Manny as the best right handed hitters that I have seen. But Trout's season has been just stunning. He is like a guy you create in a videogame.

What are the 5 greatest rookie seasons in MLB history?

I saw the NFL network did the top 10 best rookie seasons in NFL history -- the top five on the list was as follows:

#1: Randy Moss
#2: Eric Dickerson
#3: Lawrence Taylor
#4: Gale Sayers
#5: Dan Marino

That's how the voting went.

Quote:
Gale Sayers was drafted by the Chicago Bears of the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League, but signed with Chicago. In his rookie year, he scored an NFL record 22 touchdowns (14 rushing, 6 receiving, and one each on punt and kickoff returns). He gained 1,374 yards from scrimmage and had 2,272 all-purpose yards (also a record, later broken by Tim Brown, who played two more games than Sayers). He tied Ernie Nevers' and Dub Jones' record for touchdowns in a single game, with six in a 61-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on December 12.

Sayers averaged 5.2 yards per rush and 17.5 yards per reception. His return averages were 14.9 yards per punt return and 31.4 yards per kickoff return. He was the unanimous choice for NFL Rookie of the Year honors.

I stopped following baseball 30 years ago but Johnny Bench had a great rookie year up to then.

Only 2 guys have been ROY and MVP...Fred Lynn and Ichiro..although he was sorta' a rookie. I do remember Lynn's rookie year and it was something else though

Miggy's in the lineup and Trout is already 0-1.

I heard someone talking about the MVP race on the radio yesterday and they were spot on. They said if they had a player of the year award, Trout wins hands down.

But if you're talking about who the most valuable player to their team was...it's Cabrera. They don't win their division without him. Trout had an amazing year, but triple crown seasons are extra special. Especially for a guy who can't run.

Not to mention, that's not the most HR friendly ballpark in the majors.

Trout didn't come up until the end of April. The Angels had the best record in the American league from from that point on. It is close but Trout deserves it.
