Default Wagering Strategy for Breeders Cup

What will be your wagering approach to the Breeders Cup days?

I realize strategies are dependent upon bankroll...

I will likely play rolling pick 3's by singling my top horse in the first leg. Thoughts on this approach?

What if you have good opinions, but your 2nd choice ends up winning a lot of the races? Won't you be kind of hurting yourself by just singling your top choice in the first leg of all pick 3's?

These are the best two days to cast your nets wider than usual and hope to catch the big one.

Betting singles and daily doubles. I have a hard enough picking the winner in one race never mind three straight

Really wide as you can get your share of 5 to 10 K Pick 3's.

I usually have a very wide ticket and a $5 concentrated ticket and have no problems spending 200 per Pick 3. You can get some 5-10 K Pick 3's come Breeders cup day and some 800+ doubles too.

Wagering strategy should always depend on how you view the race and series of races in a sequence as a whole.

Having a generic approach before you have opinions and theories on a race is never a good idea.

I'm never a big fan of excessive spreading.

I agree. Excessive spreading means you should pass on the bet. Try a quick pick instead.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Its not a Monday at Parx. You have huge fields, many horses that can win, massive pools and you get massive payouts. You spread and catch the 40-1 horse that blows up the Pick 3 to 10K.

I have tried my hardest to stick with this plan. 2 or 3 in a row going the wrong way (usually the hard way too) and I get discouraged and go back to mixing things up a lot. Sometimes it goes well others not so much.
I do think the theory gives you the most winnable options with the best shot at collecting though. Especially if you catch that one animal at the right time.

Going narrow where most tickets will be deep and deep where most tickets will be going narrow is my approach. Beating short prices on days like these are 10x more valuable than usual because of all the casual money being bet. IMO. It has worked for me in the past so I stick with this type of approach.

A dollar here, a dollar there, you may get lucky. In addition to your handicapping.

Anyone who asks for a quick pick is playing the wrong game.

My strategy will be to pick the horse that reached the finish line before the rest of the other horses.

Don't have much of a bankroll, so probably will just be playing the last 4 races on Saturday unless, of course, I succumb to temptation which is fairly likely. This was my plan last year and it quickly went to hell in a handbag.
