'O that he were here to write me down an ass! But, masters, remember that I am an ass; though it be not written down, yet forget not that I am an ass.' Dogberry, much ado about nothing. (maybe not a 'great' literary character, but my immediate thought when i read mike's post). |

![]() i was pondering on romney, and thought of 'martin chuzzlewhit' by dickens. a great book, one of his lesser knowns i guess, but one i enjoyed. the title character is an old man with a lot of money-which is why i thought of him in regards to romney...so, here it is, a quote from chuzzlewhit for old mitt:
“The weather being hot, he had no cravat, and wore his shirt collar wide open; so that every time he spoke something was seen to twitch and jerk up in his throat, like the little hammers in a harpsichord when the notes are struck. Perhaps it was the Truth feebly endeavouring to leap to his lips. If so, it never reached them.” ― Charles Dickens, Martin Chuzzlewit |

![]() ![]() i think it fits ryan a bit more than romney-who has pretty much kept a lid on his religion, for many reasons i'd imagine. i don't like when pols go on and on about their religion-but perhaps it can serve as a warning not to vote for that person! why should michelle bachmann (for example)be given a position in govt where she can try to force others to conform to her religious beliefs? there is supposed to be a clear separation, but for some it's very muddled. and for many of the ones trying to push their religion-they are also the ones who are typically the most vocal against the 'wrong' religions, and now wanting the 'wrong' people to take over. yet, they don't see the irony. |
