On the bright side, it did say birth rates declined.
On the not-so-bright-side, no one wants to be tied with Mississippi for anything. I continue to find it sadly hilarious that states in the Bible Belt tend to be the ones with the highest rates of teen pregnancy and divorce. I just don't understand why some parents are so opposed to sex ed. Isn't the whole reason for having sex ed in school that it spares parents that mortifying discussion? I think the only time my dad and I ever had anything resembling a talk about sex was when I was ten, reading the People's Almanac entry about Jack the Ripper and had to ask him what a prostitute was. His embarrassed, yet resigned, reaction made me realize this was not the person to go to when I had questions. Anyone else remember The People's Almanac? I miss those books.

yeah, arkansans depend upon mississippi to keep us from being the worst....oops.
it's a great sign that teen birth rates are down, i saw an article several months ago that showed all birth rates are lower, not just for teens. they said that it seemed better education and availability of birth control was the main reason. and the south has the highest number of churches per capita....but all that abstinence based, cause god says so sex 'ed' isn't working. keeping sex ed out is like keeping many counties here dry-the teens just have unprotected sex while buying booze from the bootlegger, who already is breaking laws and doesn't care about breaking the drinking age rule. |

The graphic on this post about sex education made me laugh, but I'm afraid it might offend some people, so I'll just post the link (avoid if you're a Bible literalist):
http://southernbeale.wordpress.com/2...ex-ed-edition/ My brother is raising his family in Nashville. I made fun of him pressuring my sister-in-law to homeschool their kids, but if this is typical school-assembly material, I think the kids might get a better education at home.
