A man brandishing an assault rifle, shotgun and handgun opened fire Monday inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard — killing at least four people and wounding at least seven more, including two police officers, authorities said.

SWAT officers swarmed the building, the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command, and a shooter there was killed, sources told NBC News. More than two hours after the first gunfire, there were reports that tactical teams were entering a second building at the Navy Yard.

The Washington police chief said there could be as many as two other shooters at large, one white and one black, both in military-style uniforms. Federal officials said that information appeared to be based on eyewitness reports and surveillance footage. But there was no confirmation of more than one person firing shots.

This doctor deserves kudos for speaking out:

If anyone has a right to "go off" on gun violence it is her; she sees it every day.

In the 30 years through March, 78 public mass shootings occurred in the U.S. -- incidents in which four or more people were killed at random by a gunman murdering indiscriminately, according to a report issued that month by the Congressional Research Service. These crimes don’t include gang-related killings or domestic disputes where a person slays relatives or other people linked to the murderer.
.
The mass slaughters listed in the report caused the deaths of 547 people. Over the same three decades through 2012, that’s less than a tenth of 1 percent of the 559,347 people the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates were murdered in America.
Let's ignore that a single 'verified crazy' nut was allowed security clearance with multiple previous gun charges by blaming guns.

Similar to how a terrorist attack by a muslim terrorist yelling 'allahu akbar' at Fort Hood was ignored by identifying him as an American soldier and the crime, workplace violence.

Seems we can't handle the truth. Or the media/government isn't interested in the truth.

How does one sneak a shotgun into a heavily secured environment? I must admit I haven't been following this too closely.

What happened to the AR-15?

Or was that just part of the 'hope'?

SSRI's common in all Mass Shootings in recent times:

wow, seriously?

so, it's the drugs? or is that some people are loony, and even medication doesn't keep them from committing crimes?

this reminds me of folks on fox saying we should have background checks for id cards, and we should investigate people who buy video games.
yeah, don't do checks on people buying firearms, or investigate people who 'hear voices' and can still buy a gun...

and we wonder why we have these issues.

Just saying - it's a fact that should not be dismissed

http://www.behaviorismandmentalhealt...link-to-ssris/

Of course the pharmaceutical companies will never respond or investigate, they will keep paying off the legislature as it's more lucrative than actually finding out why and how to fix it.

Plus, it helps Obama's gun grabber's cause - rather than fix the drug, petition to have HIPPA changed so that a background check will reveal any instance where a potential buyer was ever prescribed a SSRI, then deny the sale.
Perfect!

i think they need to investigate more.
were the people who were prescribed these drugs taking them as directed? how often do you hear of people who are in a physicians care, get 'better' and then quit taking their meds? and off the deep end they go.
it seems logical to think that people with psychiatric issues would be inclined to commit crimes like these-they're mentally ill. what would make sense would be to make sure these folks, who are under medical care for severe illness, would be unable to buy or obtain weapons. that way, if they stop taking meds, and go loony, they don't have a gun at hand.
why are we more concerned about their rights as a citizen, then in protecting us from them?
it used to be that if your ex stalked you, the cops did nothing til he actually did something. many times then it was too late. now, they don't wait. why can't we do similar for this?
if a guy 'hears voices' and says so, why don't we confiscate his weapons?
to say that the right to keep and bear shall not be infringed is a red herring, we already have rules for felons, etc. i think we need to extend those bans to people who are loony, violent, etc.
i mean, why in the world does george zimmerman still have guns? how many calls, investigations, restraining orders, etc, before we take them?

Meh, you don't need a mental illness to get involved in a shootout- road rage will do the trick:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3956491.html

As the article states, in order to get a concealed carry permit in Michigan, you can't have a felony conviction or a mental illness diagnosis.

In Chicago (New Murder Capital of the Nation) well over 50% of those charged with murder involving a firearm HAVE a felony conviction.

Heck we had a drive-by of a park yesterday that wounded 13 people including a 3-year old, (who was out watching a basketball game at 10:30 at night!).

As they say in Chicago, "They'll be a hot time in the old town tonight, fire, fire, fire."

BTW Keep those three year olds inside tonight.

The story behind the story reads like a Hollywood trailer. It all started last October when an aspiring rapper with gang ties to the Gangster Disciples named Keith Cozart (Chief Keef) was released from jail on gun charges,

A wanna-be rapper and rival gang member (Black P Stone Nation) named Lil JoJo (joseph Coleman) began taunting and 'dissing' Keef with videos of him driving into GD territory.

Lil JoJo was shot and killed by unknown 'assailants' shortly after facebooking his location at a studio. Since that time the gangs have been at war. Over labor day w/e the 18 year old uncle of the 3-year old shot, also a wanna-be rapper and Gangster Disciple gang member named Jerome 'J Money' Wood was shot and killed.

So the park shooting last night was most definitely a battle in the gang war and with the 'bricks' (P. Stone Nation) doing the shooting and contrary to belief, the only true innocent victim in the whole melee is likely the three year old 'Tay Man'.

i dvr both, have to catch up on them tho. haven't seen the daily show with chelsea clinton (have to admit, i usually don't watch the interviews. it depends on who it's with), and think i have a colbert still in the queue.

i just wish we could figure out a way to cut down on idiots and loonies with guns, before they start coming after people like me because i have guns.
