Default Jeter

All class.
Living legend. Hoping the Yanks can make a deep run this year for him.
If Stuart Scott calls him Jetes again, wtf???? I hate Stuart Scott.
Back to Jeter. If healthy he will hit over 300 at 39. Just a great player.

You were 1/10 to say something absurd and finished off the board as the bridge jumpers got crushed.

No doubt about it, the captain of the Yanks will go down in baseball history as one of the all-time greats.

Think Jeter will be around .275, .340, .370. What's going to stink, that this team doesn't have the offense to score him once he gets on base. Crossing the plate 90 times (if healthy) will be a feat for this team.

Life long Yankee fan and I have to agree with you. I don't see them with a Top 10 offensive player at any position.

Ellsbury is certainly a top 10 CF. McCann could be a top 10 C if he can stay healthy enough which is a big question mark for him.

The bigger question about Jeter is in the field. Can he play SS at a reasonable level anymore? They already have 2 guys who should be DH's in Soriano and Beltran. The Soriano/Beltran/Jeter DH combo should be a top 10 DH as well

I don't get Ellsbury.. He had an outlier year in 2011 followed by 2 years of injuries (Hmmm.). He'll hit about 20 points higher than Gardner but basically they have the same production. He will steal more bases but that may be because he has more attempts. He is a better player but not so much to deserve the contract...

The Yankees have an amazing number of injury risks among their lineup and starters.

Jeter is coming off a season ending injury and he is old
Teixeria is coming off a season ending injury and he is getting old
Soriano is old
Beltran has terrible knees and is old
Brian Roberts hasnt been healthy since 2009
McCann has played in 223 out of a potential 364 the last 2 years
Ellsbury has played 2 complete seasons out of the last 4
Sabathia is coming off his worse season and has a ton of innings on his card
Kuroda has been pretty injury free but is a 39 year old pitcher who faded badly down the stretch last year.
Pineda has already had reconstructive shoulder surgery and missed most of last 2 seasons.

It is also hard to believe this is the team they are going to have 5 months from now. Are they really gonna go to war with Kelly Johnson at 3rd? He has started 10 games in the majors at 3rd. Jeter has to be among the worst SS's coming off of his injury. Brian Roberts wasn't a great fielder when he was was in his 20's. Beltran and Soriano are among the worst corner OF's in baseball though only 1 will play at a time. Ellsbury is great in CF and Teixeria is very good and back up SS Brendan Ryan doesnt stay employed because of his bat (he hit .194 and .197 the last 2 years) but pretty much everyone else is an iron glove.

According to baseball prospectus they have virtually no minor leaguers that are ML ready that are anything more than replacement level players at best.
It is a hell of a way to spend 200 million

He is a true lead off hitter who gets on base and plays a really, really good CF. Ellsbury stole 52 bases in 56 attempts which turns a lot of those singles and walks into doubles. Playing in Yankee stadium should help boost his HR total as well. They overpaid but they always overpay. Think of the lineup without him leading off? Who else is out there? If you are gonna have a 200 million payroll a top player in his prime isnt a bad deal.

You nailed it. To be competitive they need all those players to be injury free. By competitive I mean playoff competitive. I think winning it all is a pipe dream. Think they will stumble home 3rd in the division behind Boston and Baltimore. But at least they will do better than the Mets.

How about the all-star, hall of fame roster of babes that Jeter has "hit." Bigger accomplishment than the 3k hit club.

I think Tampa will finish 2nd. With the extra wildcard they have a pretty good chance to make the playoffs if they stay semi-healthy.

Not only hits, but a lot of bases on balls.
