I don't see the argument that if the race was run a furlong and a half longer and lesser its grade status it will "draw a very good field" compared to the Swale.

No Derby contenders come back at 6.5 furlongs anymore. There were a bunch of horses in Mott and Zito's barns among others that would have been strongly considered for a one turn mile on Donn Day but had absolutely no interest in a 6.5 furlong race. The Holy Bull field would have dwarfed the Swale field.
