As for your point about a true conservtive coupling tax cuts with budget cuts....that's true. But I don't think the world is made up of people that are either conservatives or socialists.
I think that saying many of Bush's policies are deeply influenced by welfare-state liberal theory is certainly accurate. But I don't think that makes him a socialist.
