Default Two to Follow

A couple of well-bred juveniles made taking winning debuts at Newbury yesterday. Remeber the names.

MYTHICAL KID (Sir M. Stoute);....( good-topped colt) (by Kingmambo; closely related to several winners, notably high-class French 5.5f (at 2 yrs) to 1m winner Whipper (by Miesque's Son) and very smart French 1m and 10.5f (5f to 1m at 2 yrs) winner Divine Proportions (by Kingmambo), and half-brother to 3 winners: dam, useful French 10.5f/1½m winner, out of sister to Shirley Heights), . Bred in the purple and representing leading connections, made a taking start and looks sure to go on to better things, held up towards the outer before steadily wearing down the runner-up, winning without having an overly hard time; bred to stay at least 1m, he's a good-topped colt, who, if anything, looked in need of his debut; in short, he's one to follow.

GO ON BE A TIGER (M. Channon);.... (good-topped, attractive colt, has scope)(By Machiavellian and the first foal of Queen's Logic, the outstanding 2-y-o of 2001 and unbeaten in 5 starts (including Queen Mary and Cheveley Park Stakes), herself a half-sister to high-class 7f (at 2 yrs) to 1½m (Irish Derby) winner Dylan Thomas). Belied weakness in the betting to make a really encouraging winning start to his career and, whilst his pedigree means he has a lot to live up to, he's clearly a useful performer at least in the making; looking fit though green beforehand, he tracked the pace and picked up really well to go on inside the final 1f, still very strong at the finish and very much shaping like a colt who'll be making his presence felt at a higher level.
