Default 7/1: Belmont Park ($26k C/O)

Cashing some nice tickets along the way helped, but I thought Thursday's action from Hollywood under the backdrop of what became an enormous single day carryover pool was great fun. Wagerers across North America poured an incredible $999,783 into the existing $112k pot, proving that a little time to prepare and a competitive set of races gets all of us motivated for action. The racing was very good on top of the basis for the interest, and Thursday's roundtable chat on ATR pointed you in all the right direction's on the toughest winners, including Rich Eng warning us on the potential for Brian Koriner's 15-1 upsetter in the 5th, Forward Commitment ($32.20). Brad Free couldn't have been more helpful either, with the 8 for 28 jockey-trainer stat from Formulator that tabbed Jorge Alcala, Joel Rosario and Santabarbrabendita ($10.40). And in the nightcap, my concern that the obvious players were vulnerable proved out, as Best Value 3rd tab Quintons Destiny from Dan Hendricks took over late and won easily at a fat 13-1 ($28.00).

The other three winners in the sequence were the obvious Luckarack ($6.40), American Lady ($2.60) and Mutually Benefit ($4.80), and having all 6 was good for a robust $30,675. My own ticket was too narrow snaring 4 of 6, but the $74 tri and $401 super in the 4th race with Portfolio, Zees Chris and Dynahere lining up behind Santabarbrabendita covered all of the day's multi-race investments and more. And in the nightcap, I again utilized the overlay reverse tri key method with W/PL saver approach on Quintons Destiny to another positive benefit when he overachieved at 5 ticks above his 8-1 morning line. The win returned an additional $370 ($28-W/$9-PL) to the coffers and made the afternoon successful. Hope you did well Thursday on a card I'd like to think you were acutely prepared for having listened to ATR!

Canada Day north of the boarder as the Holiday Weekend begins in earnest. Big ATR Preview Show on your radio and computer this morning, and a $26,200 carryover at Belmont to boot...

BELMONT PARK

POST-SCRATCHES

4th: NY-MSW, 2yo, 5f (P6, P3, DD, Super)

Tricky, or alternately obvious, start to the sextet with a hatful of FTS Empire breds going postward. Anticipate Pletcher-Repole Bluegrass Cat bay Zow comes out running of course..

Most Likely: #6 Zow 2-1 WON ($3.70)
Next Best: #8 The Prize Fighter 4-1 2nd
Exotics Use: #9 Officerandafoose 7-2 6th

5th: CLM/N2L, F&M-3+, 1m-T (G/S, P3, DD, Super)

Very good race with well-matched field. All pace and trip as the determinant..

Most Likely: #4 Untamed Glory 5-1 6th
Best Value: #1 Keep It a Secret 10-1 7th
Next Best: #7 Decennial 5-2 WON ($6.00)
Super Add: #3 My Donna Jean 12-1 3rd

6th: NY-MSW, 3+, 6f-IT (P4, P3, DD, Super)

Tough set to separate, with opinion of Belmont Day finale instrumental to your rankings here. Master Splash, Turn Up the Music and Paci Di Notte all exit that yielding turf affair, and meet up with at least another 3 that merit respect. Note that Molly's Ship, 5th out of that event, came back a wire to wire winner next out v. $35k MCLM'ers (72 Beyer). Challenging lynchpin to the P6 and difficult way to start the P4..

Most Likely: #1 Master Splash 6-1 7th
Best Value: #2 Nykid Time to Jazz 20-1 6th
Next Best: #7 Paci Di Notte 7-2 2nd
Super Add: #6 Turn Up the Music 3-1 3rd

7th: MDN CLM, 3yo, 1m-T (P3, DD, Super)

Best Value: #4 Cousin Rich 10-1 7th
Next Best: #6 Legend of Navarone 7-2 WON ($5.20)
Exotics Use: #3 Mosquito 3-1 2nd
Super Add: #7 East Indies 9-2 4th

8th: Sky Beauty, F&M-3+, 8.5f (DD, Super)

Most Likely: #4 R Betty Graybull 5-2 5th
Next Best: #2 Happy Week 3-1 4th
Exotics Use: #6 Patience Drive 8-1 6th

9th: CLM, 3+, 6f-IT (Super)

Mitigation (SCR'd) is a bit inviting here, but be aware that Gary Gullo is riding a hard-to-fathom winless streak on turf that is approaching 100 starts and extends back more than 5 years. As Gullo himself says about the skein, (which Gullo pal Sciacca unearthed and monitors), "it's difficult to do that if you were trying"..

Most Likely: #9 Sumfun 4-1 6th
Best Value: #1 Cayo Hueso 10-1 3rd
Next Best: #7 Golden Weekend 2-1 WON ($7.90)
Super Add: #5 Mor Chances 8-1 7th

<$100 P6 Play:

4: 6
5: 1-4
6: 1-2-6-7
7: 3-4-6
8: 2-4
9: 9

1x2x4x3x2x1 = 48 x $2 = $96

<$75 P4 Play:

6: 1-2-4-6-7
7: 3-4-6
8: 2-4
9: 1-5-7-8-9

5x3x2x5 = 150 x .50 = $75

Good luck!
Steve
